My Progressive commercial auto insurance took a huge jump this year, I called to find out why and they said it was just a general rate increase for my area (Southern Arizona). Adding the latest increase to the prior years' increases my policy actually doubled in about 5 years. We have never had a ticket or a claim, not even glass. I called my agent and within a few hours she got me an equivalent policy with another company for about 40% less.

insurance - Green Mountain/Lakewood

Just paid my State Farm policy and it only went up $20. They paid out a hefty repair bill on the last hail storm so I felt lucky!

We pay progressive 1017.00 per year here in Idaho..... we live in our 2013 FC year round with no other home. I’m always looking to get a better rate but our problem was that we live in our airstream year-round and most insurance companies will only ensure your airstream if it is a recreation only vehicle. They will all ensure you but the minute you have a claim and they find out that you live in your airstream full-time and don’t have a house they will drop you fast. I’m curious to find out if there is anyone else on here that lives in their airstream full-time like we are and has managed to get a better rate then we do?

I had the same issue with USAA Progressive for my motorcycle. Rates went up 3 years in a row (I'm a slow learner). Switched to GEICO for lower, steadier rate since. I guess geckos are cheaper than Flos.

I have a 2018 FC 27FB and Progressive quoted me a price twice as high as Geico (827 v 414). I went with Geico. I live in Indiana.

Yup. We live in our 2018 GT in rural Oregon. $1086/yr with progressive’s full timers policy with full replacement value for trailer and a small limit for contents (reminds me I need to increase that!) Still better than our old homeowners policy, but Progressive really isn’t cheap. I’d love to hear if other full timers have full-timer policies with anyone else and how they compare.

Airstream insurance

Folks: Our 19 foot 2016 Bambi has been insured year 'round in suburban New York State by State Farm at a rate of less than $1.00 per day and over three years has not waivered one bit. No claims, no problems.

USAA/Progressive rates up

I had all vehicles with USAA up till they partnered with Progressive then they moved the Airstream only to Progressive. All registered in Florida. Last month I changed my legal residence to West Virginia and moved everything here. The USAA auto policy went from $1100 (FL) down to $430 (WV). The Airstream went from $1050 (FL) up to $1205 (WV). No coverages were changed, it was a mirror policy with stated value and $1000 deductible on comp and collision. Progressive told me it was due to less number of RV's in WV than FL so premium increased. Next I told him there was less cars in WV than in FL too but USAA had cut my policy by 60%...….at that point the call connection went bad!! Go figure!!

Overall I plan to shop around for a better RV policy. Years ago I had Camping World Ins and it was very reasonable.
Similar for my 2007 Interstate in Berkeley County WV. Almost a $200 increase to $850+ with Progressive, though the regular auto and home a much smaller increase
No at fault claims on the RV for many years, nor the auto, though I was hit by a deer when I stopped to let the herd cross the road!
Must have been that damn invisible paint

Insurance increase

Just like Florida were paying for Hurricane pay outs even if you live inland and did not get any damage.

I am guessing the volumes of Hail damage and wind claims for RV’s last summer with the multiple storms in Colorado and other areas West has insurance companies raising rates to recover the payouts.

My son lives in Colorado Springs. He said Dad do not pull that Airstream trailer out here unless you want it to look like a Golf Ball. Hail damage to homes and vehicles is bad in the Springs area. Millions in damage to Vehicles RV’s Roofs Siding and Business.

Anyone else seeing this?

The agent said the following, "It is related to a change in rates for the state of Colorado in general. Since there have been more frequent and more severe hail storms, the risk for a future claim has greatly increased, and so the premium is adjusted accordingly."

We did have a hail-related claim, in fact, but the agent said, "I just quoted what the policy would have been without any claims filed on the last term. If you hadn't filed any claims, you still would have seen the same increase. The claim itself is not impacting the rate."

What is your policy doing year-over-year and where do you live?
Insurance companies know that its a huge hassle for people to change their insurance carrier so they routinely raise your rates about 15% per year knowing that most people wont do anything about it. At some point you'll have to switch companies to get a fsir rate.

My wife and I, as pedestrians, started to cross a street in Salt Lake City. We noticed a stationary car to our left with right turn signal on as we stepped into the intersection with 15 seconds on the pedestrian clock. The car turned right without looking. I came to with my right foot under the left front tire and my wife had been knocked backwards onto the pavement splitting her scalp and knocked unconscious She had bleeding in the brain and spent three nights in neurological ICU and I had many breaks in the #4 & #5 metatarsals in my foot that required surgery with pins in the broken bones.

The 23 year old female driver had just above the minimums for Utah insurance, $3k medical payments and $50K/100K liability. She admitted fault to the police so her State Farm policy has no choice but to pay out the limits. Shall we say the bills are substantial.

We have $100K medical and one million limits for liability, under and un insured motorists so my auto policy is paying and will subrogate for the State Farm policy limits. We will claim additional compensation for pain & suffering and all the on going inconveniences of neither of us being able to drive for over six weeks, and more doctor visits than I can count. My wife has on going brain issues.

I expect we may be given an opportunity to find a new carrier when all the legal dust settles despite being with this carrier since 1988.

As former military, I contacted USAA and their rates are favorable if we need to switch.

Insurance companies are really great at sucking in the premiums, but getting payments out is like pulling hen's teeth. Very often saber rattling is necessary just to get their attention followed by legal action if that does not work.

Remember, look at al the huge buildings insurance companies have in inventory making rental income. Their return on investment exceeds anything the regular financial markets have provided the little folks for decades (I get $0.97 every year from Wells Fargo as interest on checking with a minimum balance of $7,500). They have the resources to pay, but seven to nine figure paychecks and bonus payments and multiple 50 million dollar corporate jets take priority. This applies to health insurance as well.

What a terrible ordeal Switz - so sorry to hear that and really hope for complete healing for you and your wife.

The most important theme in “saber rattling” should, in my opinion, be based on the phrase “good faith”. There are legitimate limitations/exclusions and denials based on contract language, and then there are some unscrupulous players who, despite the intent of the contract, will in BAD FAITH attempt to withhold or deny payment. That’s a lower percent of players in the industry, but they do exist and they suck.

Don’t know if you are working with a broker or doing this yourself - if you purchased through a broker, they should be able to help you navigate these waters (and remember, a broker works for you, an agent - especially a “captive” - works for the carrier). If not - your discussions with the most senior executives at both carriers is warranted and should include reminders of expectations of resolution in good faith. Failing that, there are reputable lawyers who can also help navigate these waters if you’re sure the contract is being violated in bad faith. The contract language is key - some things are legitimately limited/excluded in the policy and it should be clear but can be open to interpretation.

Good luck and really hoping for a complete healing for you both!

Saber rattling is right....

We had a "not at fault" collision in the fall. A young lady turn left in front of us while we were headed thru a green light. Her damage was minimal to her front end she was able to drive away. We were able to drive away but only straight as tire would not turn.

She did not notify her insurance company for 15 days and they were not able to get ahold of her for some time as she claimed she was out of town. When her insurance company spoke to her she advised she had a green light. She did have a green light but should not have turned in front of us. Another 15 days go by and they receive the police report that advised she had failed to yield. Only at that point did her indurance company assume responsibility for the accident.

Now that the dust is settling they are claiming "that loss-of-use"
(our vehicle not being serviceable/drivable) does not kick in until after they assumed responsibility.

So for 30 days at $25 a day there is no compensation for loss of use of our vehicle.

As I have said before the Insurance Business is certainly not an industry many of us understand. I cannot see where that is correct or appropriate and yet we all have to pay our insurance premiums. Sometimes it almost seems like some kind of pyramid racket.

We found that Progressive gives you an initial low rate and then dramatically increases the rate each year. We left our long-term Nationwide home/car insurance because of the good price offered by Progressive. After only three years, it was significantly more than we paid with Nationwide. We left Progressive, went back to Nationwide and include our Bambi Sport in our policy bundle.

It pays to shop around!!! I renewed with Progressive without doing that and found they were price gouging.

Good Sam/National General Insurance quoted me $416 year for full stated value coverage on my Airstream in WV. In February Progressive quoted me $1205 for same 12 month policy which was an increase of $205 from previous year. Now because I paid the Progressive policy in full with a credit card, they say its not possible to credit the refund on the card and I must wait for the $900 refund check.

Only reason I was with Progressive was due to USAA partnership they set up for RV's. Strongly recommend everyone with Progressive get a few quotes cause I saved over $700 year by changing.

These companies never cease to amaze with the tactics they come up with. Infuriating when you purchase something online and your credit card is charged immediately, then if something goes wrong - wrong product shipped, product not received or damaged, they take their good ole sweet time refunding the card.

Just got my vehicle insurance renewal last week (Geico). Went up from $323/6 months to $440.00/6 months. Nothing changed, no tickets or accidents in the past 20 years. A 36% jump. Not quite as bad as Dish with my new bill just this week going up by over 45% from $75.00/month to $109/00/month.

I guess the $1.3 trillion tax cut republicans gave big corporations last year wasn't enough to satisfy their greed. In the meantime, my employer gave no raises last year - or the year before, just a pathetic bonus.

Gotta love capitalism.
