East Coast Rental Rates
Hey guys,
New to the group here so appreciate any input and thoughts. We have a 1958 '18 Airstream Footer that a number of people have asked to rent this summer. We are on the north east coast where rentals are rare, however, we don't want to charge anything exorbanant and really just want to cover maintenance and storage. Any thoughts on a reasonable rate to rent her out? Thanks!

I think you could charge more. Just to give an idea, here are the rental rates for a 16' non-aluminium trailer in a PA RV rental.
3 Nights: $462
Weekly (7 Nights): $798
2 Weeks (14 Nights): $1,596

1% of the purchase price, per night. So if you rented it out for 100 nights, it would pay for itself. Because after renting it out 100 nights, you'd probably need to replace it. Renters are a lot less concerned about keeping it in good shape than you are.

Heads up, renting might void your normal use insurance. I know it will with Progressive and Foremost.

I'd get one H#!! of a deposit!
Someone who treats it as a rental can do allot of damage!! I wouldn't rent mine but I don't share well.

I'm a bit of a curmudgeon on this but a 1958 AS rental?!?! They're not making the '58 anymore! 😳
Whatever the fee (and I'd recommend at least $1500/week + $1500/weekend) I'd require an escrow deposit of 100% replacement value of the trailer (which may be priceless) with 100% discretion on your part for how much of that deposit to retain based on your assessment (and your assessment alone) of damages.
Alternatively - I'd NEVER rent it!
And get off my lawn too! 😀
Seriously - I would never, ever rent or loan my trailer to anyone for any reason. If you want to, it should cost dearly and you need to be prepared for it to be damaged or destroyed.
Good luck!!

See Steve.
See Steve's Dog.
Steve trusts his Dog, his dog trusts him.
Both have the sense to know who to trust.
Dogs have loyalty. Renters rarely do.
I wrecked my own 06 Airstream, I felt sad but insurance made it all fine - it was an 06, and hardly irreplaceable.
Follow Steve's advice, stay a happy camper.

I'm honored, Paula - you are my hero when it comes to camping wisdom - and yeah, Steve and his dog are right on this one 😂
