Does anyone else think this is a scam?

new orleans recreational vehicles - craigslist

1968 Overlander for $2580. The ad states axles, bearings, holding tanks, sink, toilet, and shower are all new. The photos look to be taken in the Southwest US. (I recently moved from Tucson, AZ, and recognize the style of house, landscaping, and the intensity of the sun. But the phone number's area code is 646--Manhattan, NY.

Doies anyone else smell a scam?

$2580 seems to be the going price for scam trailers these days. If they used a reasonable price it would be harder to see the scam.

It's already flagged. Found many of the same type.

I don't think this one is a scam.

I must have been looking at an earlier one through searchtempest.

Or CL determined it was legit. When I was trying sell my Miata on New Orleans CL someone kept flagging it. Turns out the person also had a Miata for sale and was flagging all Miata ads that he could find in an attempt to slam the competition.

I see this exact same ad popping up every couple days on Austin CL, always with a slightly different price.

I called the number once, which goes to a Google Voice mailbox. A little while later someone texted me saying I needed contact 'his sister' by email, and gave me an email address featuring a misspelled woman's name ('jeniffer') and a made-up last name. I emailed this person (using a throwaway address of my own), who responded with a long-winded 'Nigerian prince'-sounding explanation of receiving the trailer in a divorce, needing to liquidate it immediately, that it would be shipped for free from Ohio, and that I could reject it upon receipt if I wasn't pleased with the quality.

Riiiight ... :P

I now flag this ad every time I see it.

Any time I see a trailer listed with only pictures of the exterior a red flag goes up in my mind as a scam.

It's a scam and here's where they stole the image...

They stole the pictures from this ebay listing:

1968 Vintage Airstream Overlander | eBay

Whenever in doubt, use Google to do a reverse-image search on the Craigslist photo's and you can usually find where they got the images from.

To Good

Buy a certified bus or trailer. Unless you are healthy enough to do all the work for yourself. Also, unless you live in a 'Snowbird' fenced in neighborhood, or a 'Snowbird trailer park. If you live in a house in town, the city's, most of whom consider all RVs are classified as commercial vehicles to be parked in you back yard or one must rent a parking spot In a RV Lot. I bought my bus off of Craigslist. It sounds to good to me true it is!! I bought a 1995 Land Yacht 33 Motor home. I have been ripped off three times. I paid $7500. The Onan does not work, The engine shop lied and said the bus needed a rebuilt engine, $10,000.00. The odds and ends are killing me. The gas gauge does not work. The bus air does not work, etc, etc, I now have over $20,000 in the beast and I will need to put another $20,000.00 in the beast before it is road worth.

Maybe not - since people can keep their phone numbers. I am in VA, area code 804, and tutor a student who lives about 2 miles from me but their area code is 646. My friend moved here a year ago and both her land line and cell use the area code from MD since she kept both numbers. I really don't like that one can keep the same number whereever they live - being a math teacher of many years I feel it is not too hard to learn a new arrangement of 10 digits- goodness need to keep those brain cells active.
