Hi Everyone

I finally picked up my first airstream trailer today! It is a 16 bambi. It comes with a 2 years factory warranty. The dealer offered another 5 years extended warranty to make the total warranty for 7 years. The cost is $1554, it is about $300 ever year. I am already paying a lot, I want to save a bit, so I refused the offer. Dealer told me I have a week to add the warranty in if I changed mind. I understand repair is costy........ So, how's people here? did you get it?

Hi, from my dealership experience, [since 1968] I say no on any extended warranty that doesn't come from the manufacturer. Airstream warrantees your trailer; And most everything thing else in, and on, your trailer has a warranty from the makers/suppliers of those parts.

Thanks for the reply. The airstream dealer I purchased from said this warranty is valid in all airstream dealers across the country. It is also transferable. There is a $100 deductible. I guess it is a factory warranty? Of same thing? They said they had 3 pick up today earlier than me, all 3 buyers purchased that extended warranty....

I would check to see if it is a factory warranty or third party. Then, I would want to see the warranty and read the fine print. Really. Read it. What the big print gives, the small print takes away. Given the horror stories I've read about these trailers on this forum scares the carp out of me, but usually if there is going to be a problem, it should show up in the first 2 years. Problems caused by owner neglect most likely won't be covered under any warranty.

Extended warranties in all industries are a scam. I am still getting offers for an extended warranty on my 2004 Ford so the week is not the limiting factor.

I really dislike how dealers in all industries play on peoples fears.
My brother in law was a GM dealer for twenty years and has told me that extended warranties are total profit for the salesman and dealership.
My two cents........don't purchase the extended warranty, save the same cash for a repair (maybe) in the future and enjoy your new purchase.

The other day I bought a $15 clock at Radio Shack who put the hard sell on an extended warrantee for that.

If you enjoy spending money on extended warrantees, go for it. Not me!

I only had one warranty that paid off. It was on a Chevy Astro. I made money on that one. Not so much on anything else. I finally stopped buying them. I get offers on vehicles I no longer own. They go right into the trash.

My philosophy is you say no to all extended warranties. Yes, occasionally, you'll get hit with a repair that would make one of them worth it, but not when considering all the money you spent on all the other worthless ones. If you start picking and choosing, inevitably you'll need the warranty you didn't get and not the one you did.

I once bought a new Toyota Camry Hybrid. They put the hard sell on me for the extended warrantee because it was a "new and very complex car and costly to repair".

I told them it was a fine sales technique for Toyota quality, how they just sold me a new $30,000 car and before I get it off the lot, they are now telling me what a piece of crap it will be and how much it will cost me if I don't buy the extended warrantee. I asked why they didn't tell me what a junky machine it was when I was deciding to buy it.

Of course I didn't buy the policy. And of course the car was just fine without it.

They are mostly worthless other than to enhance the dealer's bottom line.

If these warrantees weren't making more money for the dealer than it cost them they wouldn't sell them.

This being the case the odds are that it is a bad gamble.

Looking at my repairs over the past 10 years. Two skylights and two wheels. Total expenses around $800. One skylight replaced under original warranty. Second skylight in year 5 of ownership on my nickel. Backing plate and brake shoes one one wheel, year 8. Same wheel year 10 springs backing plate shoes and drum. Extended warranty would have only caught the skylight. Not taking the warranty was a good choice.

Thanks Jack! That extended warranty from dealer also has a $100 deductible! Not worth it!

I am buying a used 2011 25FB from a dealer. The unit has some rust on steel parts and has obviously been well used. The price is below list so is quite attractive. Question: In THIS case would it make sense to buy a $3700 4yr policy? Two parts: RVProtect and Roadside Protect. I usually run from these policies like suggested, but wonder if it is worth the protection for a used unit. I also have a 1998 34' Excella and haven't spent nearly that much on anything that might be covered though the air conditioner does need replacement!

Probably still not worth it?
