Coach-net

We recently purchased a new AS and received membership cards to coach-net. I have no idea if this is a scam or legit. The letter states that the 3 year membership was a "gift" from Airstream. Any info would be appreciated. I must be an untrusting person since I always get suspicious when I receive a freebie. Thanks.

My CoachNet story - in the first month of owning my trailer, the infamous hot water heater circuit board failed while in a KOA campground. I called CoachNet, explained that I was a full-timer and could not sit in the local Airstream dealer lot for a few weeks while parts were ordered. They dispatched a mobile RV tech who was certified on Atwood RV components, replaced the circuit board, and I was up and running the same day. No charge.
I'm a big CoachNet fan.

When we had our motorhome, we had a breakdown near Altoona. Coachnet had a tow truck out to us in under an hour and hauled our rig to a Freightliner repair facility. No charge. We've been very happy with them.

Is Coach Net a different service than Good Sam? One better than the other or provide different things?

Positive Coach Net Experience

We experienced an electrical problem (caused by my stupidity) in our 2019 FC 25 RBT last January while in Florida for the winter. I called them in the evening and a technician called me back within 30 minutes. He had me all fixed up in less than 10 minutes.

It was a learning experience. I learned not to use one of the small electric heaters, 1500 watts, on any of the circuits that go through the invertor. It tripped the reset button on the invertor. I now know where the reset button is and that Coach Net was very responsive and helped us out.

Live and learn!

I also had a good experience with Coach-Net. I had a problem with my coupler, called for assistance and a tech called me back a short time later.

Coach-net is different from GoodSam. While GS is a good discount on many things, their roadside assistance is often not found to be a good choice. The two main players who provide a good service are the Hartford and Coach-net. That is a hearsay observation, but reports like those above are examples.

Have SafeRide and AAA. Issues with both those and we will be returning to CoachNet next year. Understand that the fee is $250 for the first year and then drops to about $180. Many find the cost high and move to lower cost alternatives. However, it appears lower cost alternatives are only cost effective if you don't need them.

If you have alternate experience, please post the details. It would be helpful in my research. Pat

Can’t speak directly to Coach Net but Good Sam and AAA (and many car insurance towing policies) are basically minimally staffed dispatch centers. You need them and call them, you are getting a person in a room somewhere with a computer and a script. Their job is to provide the service you need by the least costly method.

Spring 2018 we got into a deep bed of gravel on a steep little hill in the Smokies and got stuck. Dialed up Good Sam. My wife was on the phone with them for 45 minutes as they tried to figure out where we were despite the fact that we gave them the nearest intersection, lat and long and distance/direction from the nearest town. They finally figured out where were and we thought we going to get helped when the last question they asked was “were we safely off the road”.

My wife told them that, no, we were blocking the road in both directions (2 lane road in the boonies). Then they tell us, hang up and call 911, we can’t help you if you are blocking traffic.

So we did, a highway patrolman showed up shortly, locally tow truck right behind him who had us out of there in short order minus $250.

In fairness, Good Sam did reimburse us for the $250 and did so without argument and in a timely manner.

But, don’t you think “are you safely off the road” should have been asked a bit earlier in a 45 minute conversation?
