Best way to sell Airstream

Hi Friends - just need advice - and need to know the best way to sell my AS - have put ads on this classified page and also on Airstream Marketplace and NO questions or queries or anything...........seems like a fair price at $95,000 for a 2018 FC. 30' with the twin beds - has less than 1500 miles on it. Any suggestions on the best way to sell.............several people told me that there is a demand for good used units right now and the area dealers sure don't have any on the floor but I'm not having luck - need advice. Thanks - Marci

I have used Airstream Classifieds successfully 3 different times. Price these days is all over the map; for a 18' 30FCT, that may be a bit high. If your anxious, I would consider pricing better. I had identified a "new"2020 Classic 30 Twin with dealer price of $114,000 before pandemic. Today, that would be a great price for new or even that year on a Classic. Difficulty with the 30' Flying Cloud (IMHO), is it's not much different then the 28' FCT. When your pushing a $95K+ slightly used, folks are still looking for a bargain. What is the bluebook value say?

There's a '16 FC30 active on the classifieds right now asking $109k so I don't know if price is the issue.

You only have 3 photos on your ad, and one of the things you highlight in the photos is the conversion to recliners which is polarizing. Nearly everyone who converts to recliners loves it, because it's what they wanted, but buyers (especially first-timers) see something that's different from the Airstream marketing photos and sometimes anything non-standard is a challenge.

You're also in a tough location, there are more than a dozen active ads in each of Houston, Dallas and Austin/SA metro areas, and you're 150 miles from the nearest of those which may deter more casual browsers. Lots of newbies seem to like smaller trailers as a starter (and lots of them end up in longer ones a few years down the road!)

I'd recommend adding some nice photos. If you have (or take) a really eye-catching photo, when you're editing your ad be sure to click the star on that photo so it shows up as the default thumbnail for your ad. I don't know if changing the price is going to make much difference on eyeballs, you're on the 3rd page of results sorting either up or down in price (all of the 1st-page results are "Featured" ads either way) and you'd have to make a big price change to move up or down a page.

Thanks for the tips.

BTW - all the original furniture is wrapped in heavy mattress bags and sealed and stored - the buyer can take it with them - we are just not physically able to change it out at this point in our lives. Also - nothing was actually screwed into the AS - it's all held in place with industrial strength Velcro - the stuff works!

Agree with above you need more pictures, more the better with at least each side and the corners shown. You should declutter the interior pics and remove the rugs to show the flooring condition, also I would not have the dog shown, not everyone allows dogs in their trailer and indicate if it has been smoke free if that's the case.
Good Luck

I'm sure not mentioning/showing a pet is probably the right choice, but I decided some time ago that if I'm the one who sells (i.e. if it's not my estate selling it) then I'm going to mention how many nights I've enjoyed my Airstream, the fact that I used the toilet the very first day I owned it, how much my dog loves Airstream travel, etc. I'm not gonna be one of the "barely-used" crowd.

It will sell when the price is right - but not, I think, at what you're asking. Low to mid $70's would be my guess. I agree with others, you need more pics and an explanation that it can be restored to factory condition with all of the original pieces that you still possess.

Asking price is totally meaningless. Anyone can ask any price they want. Search the ads to see what the trailers are actually SELLING for. That is your benchmark as far as price is concerned. THAT is what buyers are willing to pay.

Yes your photos are not doing you any favors.

As mentioned all 4 corners in a nice setting if possible. Extra chair, rugs, recliner seat cushions, counter stuff all gone. The open counter front was a little confusing but it sounds like you have the original parts just make it more appealing. Move the recliners apart if needed is there a table between. Bright cushions, nice neat bedding. Open the blinds and show off that pretty trailer.

Remember you are staging this like you are selling a house. Not fakery or lipstick on a pig but appealing and pleasant.

Respectfully, your photos are awful. They do nothing to stimulate interest n your lvely Airstream. Find a competent photographer with a real camera (no phone photos, please). Have lots of photos made of a clean, uncluttered, trailer. When you post your photos online (here, or elsewhere) be sure they are not "sideways" or upside down (common with phone photos).

It would probably be to your benefit to get good photos of all of the original furniture that has been removed from the trailer.

We recently sold our Airstream in less than a week for full asking price (older and lower price point, but still . . . ). I listed on Airstream Classifieds and one other site (Airstream Hunter website & Facebook). We got the most inquiries and actual sale from Airstream Classifieds.

As others have mentioned, you need better photos, and more of them.

Especially at a higher price point, you need to really show off!
Remove all clutter, including everything off the countertops, get the throw rugs off the floor, make sure bed is made nicely, towels (unless you remove them for photos) hung completely straight.

If there are any blemishes, show a close up of them. Full disclosure is always best.

Pick a nice day, not overcast, so you have good natural light. Make sure photos aren't sideways when you post.

Create a good write up, describing everything even if it's standard issue.

Here's our listing, if it might inspire you: https://www.airstreamclassifieds.com...georgia-363926

Hope this helps!

Take that ad down and start over! If I really wanted to sell my Airstream and tr and get top dollar, then: 1) spend a day or two cleaning and detailing the heck out of it! Make it look like it's sitting in a showroom and has never been on the road. 2) Remove ALL, and I mean ALL of your belongings from the Airstream. Leave only what will be included in the sale and don't assume they will want anything you might want to throw in. Assume that someone could come look at it and buy it on the spot and after giving you the money, drive away with it. Don't have a situation where you then have to tell a motivated buyer that it will be several days before you can get your stuff out. 3) If you have a nice camera or can borrow one, take better pictures. Look at other folks pictures of similar Airstreams and try to replicate their good photos. Find a good image of the floor plan and include that too. Carefully pick your cover photo. The one you have is BORING! Maybe have the awning out and a couple of nice patio chairs so the buyer can imagine their new lifestyle. Your picture only represents how it will look when being stored. It's all about the marketing. Good luck!

Selling used AS

I agree with the others, clean up the rig and have it ready to leave. I recently sold my 1966 Overlander and got the most response from Craigs list. Sold it the first day and had 8 people waiting for the deal to fall through. Got a good price for it too. Good luck!

Excellent point. The couple who bought ours drove 9 hours and took it with them. People who are ready to buy don't want to make a second trip, especially if they are traveling any distance.

Agree on most all points and pictures speak volumes to have a buyer visualize. Also, find the layout of your rig and use it as a photo.

I would be fully transparent on the pet ownership. When I sold mine I was as clear as glass on everything. Once it sold, less than 2 weeks, I told the buyer I was having all the fabric items professionally cleaned and sanitized. Although, my Eddie Bauer was clean, I took a full day and cleaned again top to bottom. A lot of work yes, but I wanted the best first impression for my buyers and also convey I kept my rig clean and maintained.

I also shot video walk through and around the outside and shared them once someone requested interest. I also used FaceTime for on the spot video sharing and allowing for open dialogue.

My rig was in SW FL and sight unseen buyer located in Washington state. I received a phone call a week later from buyer and states that they were blown away how amazing the AS EB was overall. I would have never known your dog stepped her paws inside. He said as we ended the call, you know what — that rear hatch is amazing…. Thanks for the photos videos we feel like we have a brand new airstream.

Of course, I miss the rig all the time. I’ll have another in the near future.

Best of luck and you gotta put in a little elbow grease - you have a great rig showcase it. Ask family member who is good with their phone camera to help out.

We recently sold our 2019 Tommy Bahama 27’ to a great couple from Colorado. They drove 1,500 miles to pick it up a few weeks ago. They bought it sight unseen and paid essentially what I was asking. Considerably more than you are asking for your 30’. Of course the TB is a limited edition model, so more rare, but still, I doubt your price is out of line. We found Airstream Marketplace to be best. Tried Airstream Forum and RV Trader and had zero luck. Several serious inquiries on Airstream Marketplace.

We posted quite a few pictures showing inside and outside. We also had all the iconic Tommy Bahama goodies that came with the trailer, most unused. I think that helped - as another poster said, not everyone wants a modified trailer so if you have all the original furnishings make sure you note that.

Good luck - post better pics and hold on your price. My opinion anyway.
