So Monday is the day we FINALLY pick up the Airstream! Yesterday was my birthday and I arrived home from Sydney to some lovely presents from my family, including this shelf from my husband, to keep me happy till the real thing arrives. He made it himself and I was in disbelief that he even thought of it!! Click image for larger version

Happy birthday x Happy Monday. Beautiful shelf. He's a good lad. Get loads of exercise or do something to tire you out Sunday so you sleep well Sunday night and not awake all night with excitement

Airstreams in Australia. Wow.

Congratulations!

At first glance, that shelf looked like a cookie cutter. Very clever.

Have a wonderful time, and post lots of photos.

You won't believe it. Failed quarantine. Needs pressure washing as there was some dirt on the wheel wells. I'm having a real FML moment and am so disappointed. My hubby only has one day off a fortnight and it's tmrw. They say it will be ready Tuesday or Wednesday now and I have no way to pick it up. 😞😥

Love your shelf, my hubby's a stainless steel man too aw that sucks, I had to get a friend to pick ours up with me as my husband is working 17 days on and 4 off building a dry milk powder factory. Not the same without them. I am trying to keep it together also has been 10 weeks and our parts still haven't left the US feels like it will never happen. Def not going to be ready for summer good luck for this week

Thanks Nugee! It sounds like our husbands have similar interests and jobs!! We are heading to Melbourne regardless as we have an appt tmrw, and I'm going to get dean to call and put the heat on. I'm way too soft. Fingers crossed we can get them to push the inspection forward but I'm not getting too confident.

Positive thoughts you just might get a nice surprise, we probably could but there's a chance of water getting in where the panels have been pulled away from the rivets. No pics i didn't realize smiley faces didn't come up in the reply. Hope you get your baby home soon

Good luck tomorrow, the waiting is painful, i remember checking online to se where "Michigan Highway" was with my 1st Airstream 73 Overlander, it will be a great journey for you all, especially being so far away from the US, i'm in the UK, whats the plan with the trailer, ? trade wind is a good length and being single axle nice and light, as your hubby is a handy chap, have a look at Composite Aluminium Sheets, it is amazing stuff, i used it in my overlander for internal wall/bulkheads, its often used in signage industry in the UK, i have lots of pics of my trailer on my profile, i've now got a 59 built Avion, 24.5ft so a vintage kin to your Tradewind. hope it all goes well and don't hesitate to ask questions, ps a good book to buy is the one by David Winwick some great work done.
Cheers
Tim

You guys are awesome! Thanks for all your support. The latest is that I called the depot (very early this morning!) and explained the situation. I got a lovely helpful lady who told me that the second inspection was booked for this morning. When the customs guy arrived it was still wet, so he was coming back at 12 (half an hour ago now) and she was getting him straight onto it. She'll then ring through to the shipping agency I used and ask them to send the release forms. I've explained that the shipping co have been pretty slack so she's also staying on top of that. I feel sick with nerves and excitement but hopefully later today we'll have her hooked on!
UPDATE!! As I was typing that she called! It's passed, and waiting on the email to come through!!! OMG!!!

Apparently the inspectors have no idea what lurks in the bellypan & walls. Every Airstream we've disassembled has rodent debris & carcasses throughout the closed spaces. A bit of dirt in the wheelwell is the least of your worries.

Yes, you're right Colin! Ours is an empty shell and from what i understand the new floor isn't fully attached. So I dare say they looked in there. The PO said it was all good and I'm assuming it still is. Regardless, she'll be on her way home soon!

She's hooked on! Dented, scratched, broken windows, jimmied door...quite the anti-climax. Nonetheless, we have her and the insurance will cover damages. Click image for larger version
