Help...need to inspect a trailer in Florida!

Hello All,

We are from RI and looking to purchase a trailer located 20 miles north of Tampa, Florida. Is anyone living in the area willing to inspect the trailer? We will be happy to pay for gas and lunch money. Please PM us.

Many thanks.

Best,
Titu & Gail

Make sure, as best you can, to have the frame also examined.

It's not a secret that any Airstream or Argosy trailer that has been near salt water for years, more than likely will have a very bad rusted frame.

If that's the case, that would not be an ideal coach to buy, unless you also plan on replacing the complete frame.

Then there would also be corrosion to the sheet metal, because of an old plasticoat finish.

I've found that there's a big difference between the East Coast and the West Coast of Florida. The East Coast is far more prone to rusting issues. I was born on the West Coast and worked in marine construction out of the Tampa Bay area for over 30 years (---just about everything we touched was made out of ferrous metals.) I think that it has a lot to do with how much salt-saturated air is physically generated by wave action and then carried ashore by the prevailing winds. The Atlantic ocean, being far more agitated than the Gulf - as a general rule - is the offender. On some islands in the Pacific, and other islands subject to steady trade winds, I've seen 2-year-old Toyota pickups with bodies completely rusted through - while their roofs were held in place with duct tape.

All of that notwithstanding, your word of caution is most appropriate!
