newbie import question

I am looking to buy an older Airstream trailer but I have heard that only certain models from the USA are allowed to be imported into Canada. Is there any truth to this?

Rick
I would check the R.I.V. Web site ,I have imported two airstreams from the usa both been new but I don't think you will have a problem , the only thing I know is your allowed one trailer per year on new ones ,and it's the easiest thing I've imported from the states. Like I said check the r.i.v .web site or you can also call them for info.

Hi Rick,
I am in agreement with Don, I have been transporting new RVs from the manufacture directly to customers over there. (big box type) There are no restrictions that I know of except power and water certifications for the ones that I ship.
Enjoy your new Airstream.
RJ

Thanks all. Got some good info from Registrar. Anything over 15 years old seems ok. Where is the VIN usually?

Hi Rick

I just completed the RIV process yesterday on a 2015 27FB International. In addition to the RIV process US market trailers that do not have a CSA label also need an electrical and propane inspection.

The Airstream appliances are all CSA approved on US models but the electrical system has 20 amp breakers and the Canadian units 15 amp. Dealers here won`t work on trailers that have not had the Canadian inspection and the cost for it is $500.00 plus the needed parts. Just one more non tariff barrier to jump over. Buy the way it is illegal and has liability issues to sell your trailer with Canadian plates if it is not CSA approved or have the local inspection seal.
