now it is coming together

When I start a project, I plan it out, clean up the structure and start to collect everything I will need to finish. Then I build it all, then install it and assemble it all at once. The time now has come for me to start the final process. It will now happen fast. The new floor is in, wiring finished and the insulation is in. Polish finished today. The carpentry is complete and I finish stain/finish tomorrow. Paint the Zolatone on Tuesday next week. Details afterward.

Project questions

Hello Melody,
That's a great project! I will be following your Zolatone phase of the project. I am working on a 62 Safari and interested in how to apply the paint. I have to strip white latex paint off, also. What process and product do you like for polishing? Those AS's are really shiny! Also, how do you secure the c-channel to the floor when repairing? It seems that you can't use bolts from underneath because the belly pan hasn't been removed. Looks great!

Choke, Gag, Cough,Hack.......

Zolatone.......I am trying something different here. I am using Zolatone in two different colors. Dark Red for the inside of the bath/shower/toilet and the side overhead cabinets on the side. Madusa for the rest of the entire inside. THEN,.......the bill arrives......800 dollars plus for just the Zolatone. Rustoleum rattle cans are looking pretty good about now. This is the fourth Airstream I have done the Zolatone route with. Never this big a price jump....181 dollars a gallon.....Big Deal, I got a shipping break and 10 dollar a gallon for the order.

upholstery

Got the recycled folding bed back today....the dinette seat cushions next. If you know how the original couch arms looked....slap sided about 2 inches wide, you can see how we built up the width so as to fill the space to the walls. Not enough room for any type end table. I did make the shelf behind the couch with shelf areas on each end.

Now I can get at it

All the interior has been made an stained, the curtains are in progress, upholstery done and now the Zolatone is almost finished. I am anxious to see how the colors come together.

Hoping on the red Zolatone

Me too Rob. This is a big experiment. I wanted color and was going to paint the inside. Plan was progressing until my wife started referring to the Safari as the Circus Wagon. Plan changed to the Madusa Zolatone...I always like it. I still wanted color and working with the maple floors and maple cabinetry was necessary. I redid the upholstery in the dark brown with gold and aqua design, I then decided to use a red maroon for the counter tops and the bath/shower details. Now the daring part....I stuck with Zolatone and went with a dark red to go with the formica work. That will be only on the inside of the bath/shower walls with stainless lower areas and a mirror on the inside of the door (offering a full length when opened outward.) One overhead cabinet will also be red Zolatone to draw the color to the back of the trailer. All of this will be tied together with the curtains. I hope it works without being overboard. There is always a way to repaint.

I am working in the country so I see dumped and abandoned pets regularly. I guess these guys Packed together for security and companionship. Great Pyrenees, two blue heelers and a Golden Lab. They showed up in the cold yesterday and I made a heated pallet for them inside the Red Barn. Bad cell phone photos of the cabinetry going in. It is progressing.

Thank you for caring for the dogs. All ours are rescues, and more people should care better for dogs. It's sad when a dog is abandoned or strays. They really do need people and a few companions. They are pack animals by nature. My crazy pups all sleep together in a group in cool weather.

Robin - Not at all surprised that you would make a warm spot & care for those dogs. Good on ya.

BTW - Your choices for the Safari look great, circus wagon & all. I like a splash of color too.
