Hanging pictures

How do you hang pictures on that nice shiny SE interior without damaging the surface?.
I am considering applying velcro patches but am worried that if I remove them later that the clearcoat might be damaged.

Has anyone here mounted any pictures in their Safari SE?.

The coach I just bought had sticky tack in it to hold pictures up. It wiped off the walls & didn't leave any marks.

John, not to worry, there is no clear-coat on the interior skins. Hang away!

I think here must be a coating on the interior walls or otherwise the walls would produce black smudges when you wiped them.

Also, if there were no coating the Velcro adhesive might produce a chemical reaction with the raw aluminum.

the exposed interior skin on newer units....

is the SAME alcoa clearcoated aluminum that is used on the exterior...

corrosion and all!

try the 'command' products from 3m...

i've had things attached in the shower, on the woodwork and on the clearcoat aluminum...

for 2 years.

no loosening, and no blemishes to the surfaces...

ANY adhesive product will break loose eventually

given time and heat inside the unit.

I'll pipe in as an SE owner and fully agree with 2air'. The interior skin has the same gloss and feel as the clearcoated exterior. Everything I've heard and read is that it's the same skin used on the outside. I believe you'd get scratches from road vibration if you mount a hard object (eg, picture frame) that actually contacts the inner skin. If you're set on owning your Airstream until both of you are old and tired, you might as well drill a hole and come up with a mount you can pop rivet to the skin. I wouldn't be real impressed if looking at a used unit like that but other issues would be much more important.

Clay-like tacky stuff eventually leaves an oil residue on posters when I've used it. There's a 3M double-sided foam tape for posters that works too well or not at all. Never use solvents or abrasives anywhere on clearcoat. Try a bit of veggie oil on a fingertip if trying to remove something from clearcoat.

Yes, there is a thin anti-ox coating on the inside from the aluminum supplier but not "Clear Coat" as sprayed on the exterior skins once assembled. Sorry for the confusion!

I believe 2air' is correct as to the clearcoat on the exterior. As far as the exterior is concerned it is my impression that on all late model trailers the clearcoat comes with the raw material from Alcoa , there is no clearcoat aplied after assembly.

I'll try the 3M Command product. It seems to be a good solution as I certainly will not drill holes in the skin.

I hung everything with Velcro... seems to stay ... no problems falling off when you move your trailer....

3M Command works great! It's very strong and comes off clean.

I've also discovered that suction cups work amazing! I use them to hang everything including my American flag on the exterior.

When we hang pictures in our Airstream, we mount the picture on the back of a nice photo mat. Then we can put a bend in the mat and photo so that it conforms to the wall. We then use double stick tape to mount where we please. We don't use frames as they add weight, and may come off the wall doing damage as they fall.

This isn't the greatest photo of the pictures on the wall, but you can get the idea of what we have done.
