NEW: Comprehensive Ignore System

Based on your feedback from we have developed a new more comprehensive ignore system. This new system allows you to ignore forums, threads, and threads started by people on your ignore list. It currently ignores these items when you are browsing the forums (you don't see threads or forums you have ignored), in search results, on New Post link or Today's Posts. It also skips them if you are using the next/previous thread links at the end of the threads. It will also keep these threads from showing up on the portal too.

To select a forum to hide you need to select the Forum Tools drop down and then select hide forum (see attachment). To select a thread to hide, use the Thread tools drop down and select hide thread (see attachment), to ignore threads started by people on your ignore list, go to the bottom left of the User CP where you will see a settings link and check off the box to ignore their threads.

Once you have ignored these forums and discussions you will not be able to see them in case you want to unignore them. So if you do want to unignore them there are tool in the bottom left of the UserCP to manage the items you have selected to ignore.

So now if you don't like the a certain forum, just hide it. Same goes with threads, if one is bugging you, just hide it. You can even hide threads based on tags. So if you want to ignore threads on a specific topic by ignoring tags. If you chose not to hear anymore about an ignore system feel free to hide this thread too !

Regards,

Andy

Most children come equipped with one from the factory. If yours is non-functional, you're doomed...

On a similar, but different note. It would be nice to have an "ignore" type option of showing whether you are online or not while logged in to the forums. I know there is an "invisible" option that applies to all members seeing you, but to have an option that would only allow the folks in your "contacts/friends" list to see you would be great. Just my 2 cents.

Mary

Is it Working???

Has anyone tried this yet?
Here is what I have found so far:
I can ignore and hide forums, but not sub-forums.
If I ignore threads they are still visible on the Portal list. That doesn't seem to me to be the way Andy explains it.
Thanks,
Ken

Mary, I think your suggestion might be included in the v4 of the forum software which has lots of new features like that.

w7ts, the stuff you ignore should not be showing up on the portal page. I will look into this to make sure the problem is fixed.

Ahhhh. I thought this was something like what our work place encourages: the Ask and Ignore Program. Kinda similar!

The ignore thread feature seems to be working fine now. They drop from the portal list as soon as I ignore them.
Thanks,
Ken

Thank Andy and whom ever had a hand in making the IGGY Button available. Now people can ignore me if they want and I can ignore the 5 letters that make my blood boil.
Thanks Andy

Smile Review

Now that I have experimented with this for a awhile, I find the ignore thread very useful. The best effect for me is making more of the threads that I am interested in visible in the portal list. I ignore threads that I know are of no interest to me, and they drop out of the portal list causing the threads that just dropped off the bottom to reappear.
Thanks for the new feature
Regards,
Ken

Andy,

I've been meaning make this suggestion for a while... this thread seems like a good place.

Rather than ignoring a specific member is there a way to "subscribe" to all post by a particular member?

I have found there are a number of members here that offer great knowledge virtually every time they post.

It would also be great to "subscribe" to posts of my friends... wouldn't want to miss their wit and wisdom either.

Thanks!

Reminded today how fortunate we are to have the ignore forum feature on this site. Thanks again.

Unfortunately that's not a bug and is by design.
