Announcement: Site Backup Crazyness
Dear Fellow AIR Members,
The last day has been full of a few wacky issues that has caused some confusion. I am going to outline what happened:
- Andy (me) was cleaning some stuff in order to upgrade the classifieds system and accidentally deleted all the forum attachments (10Gb, photos (5GB) and campgroun review attachments (less then 100MB). We had to restore from a backup. Due to the large quantity and size of the files (100,000 files = 15GB) backups on the files are done on a weekly basis. That means my mistake caused the attachments (unknown number) and photos (6) posted on May 30 and May 31 to be lost. I'm sorry about that!
- Today I was working on some template stuff and accidentally made an error. I asked the server admins to restore our database backup (made daily) and they did but instead of restoring it to another instance they overwrote our live database. This caused the posts from 1:50 am to 8:40 pm (CST) to be lost. This was an accident and they said "We're truly sorry about this".
I am truly sorry about this inconvenience. I hope that those seeking information today will re-post, I promise to not let this happen again, at least for a few years! Maybe this mean I should go grab a drink and stay away from the keyboard?

A Shame
I understand computer failures.
I lost to many photos and dialogue to start over.
A real shame.

Dang.
Thanks for keeping us up to date Andy.
I'm sure you and the Mods/Admins will dip into your bag o'tricks and make things right. I hope so 'cause I had a really genius post a couple of hours ago.
Good luck and may the aluminum force be with you.

Who the heck did that?
I doubt Andy is editing his own critiques.
No room here for honesty eh?

What's done is done, big deal, move on; I remembered one of my posts and just re-did it.

Understood Andy,
Well, as we always say when our websites behave mysteriously, "Obviously, it's not happening!"

We appear to have lost registrations during this period too. Apologies to those involved. You will need to register again.

Too bad, but as someone once said, "Life: you don't get out alive."
As for lost photos, that's just another reason to use one of those external free photo warehouses to store the actual image, with just a link to the post...

Andy, there is only one entity (or so some of us believe) that never makes mistakes. You do your best and from time to time something happens and Oh Well.....
Thanks for the courtesy of letting us know though. I thought perhaps it was good drugs and that I wasn't really on the system this afternoon.....
