TV antenna/ cable hookup

Would anyone explain what setting to set your TV after connecting to cable at RV parks? Also, how to set up the antenna to obtain local channels? We are currently using a Dish Tailgaters without problems. Would be nice to do get local channels/news where we travel to.

My TV's are Samsung. The menu might vary a bit between brands, but the concept is the same. On the remote select "menu". That brings up a list. Scroll down to Picture (or Channel) , and you have a choice of "air" or"cable". Since you want to use your tailgater, not cable, select "Air". Then do a channel search. Then make sure the button on the wall plate is depressed, and it should illuminate. You need that anytime you select air. It's twofold, one, it selects the roof antenna, amplifies it AND it switches between the cable and antenna, so if it's out, you are looking at the cable coax (which you're not using.) You see there's only one coax input to the TV and that's why.
Conversely, if you're connected to the park cable, switch the booster off, go to menu, select cable and do another channel search. Sadly there's only one search so you need to repeat it when changing from air to cable.
I don't know how the satellite gets to your TV, perhaps the HDMI? So in the main menu you should be able to switch between the HDMI and the coax (roof antenna).

You can get local channels with your dish tailgater combo by contacting dish support and changing your location. Use the address of the park you are camped in and the local channels will be available in a few minutes.

Assuming you have a local channel subscription with Dish. If not there will be a charge to add locals.

My package must include local channels, did not realize that it was not standard.

Some cable systems require a cable box which requires ANALOG channel 3 or 4 be used on your TV.

Another alternative to azflycaster's suggestion of calling DISH support (which I used to do) is to download the MyDish app. You can pay your bill, change to local channels as you travel about, add channels, remove channels, etc. It's under Services.

Turn off green light

First time.
We do not want the ability to turn on the TV
But the little green light is annoying and I can't find any way to turn it off

Just toggle the little black button next to the coax connector in Mollysdad's picture.
