Need help with surround sound when playing dvd/video

I have listened to the u-tube on how to operate my 2008 Bambi's video system. When I start a video and then go to CDC 2, like it says to do for surround sound, I just get an annoying hum from the back speakers.

I thought maybe the rear speakers were blown but they work fine on radio and CD.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Might be the RFI noise thus you might need to add an inline filter as I had too on my 2009 Classic - of course I did have audio but noise too....

If you have a subwoofer, that may be the problem. There are two adjustments on it and they need to be turned down 'til you find a setting that doesn't cause hum or noise. On some, the controls are on a side you can't reach and you have to unscrew the hold downs and turn it around to adjust it.

The subwoofer is always on and I put a switch in the line to turn it off and not draw on the batteries. I turned it off and it is still off.

Or, as John suggests, you may need a filter.

Even better, I like Gene's ideal of installing an off switch. Seems the 2011 does not have this issue so I'm pretty confident something changed...

Gene, there is no sound coming out of the rear speakers other than a low hum or buzz in the video/surround sound mode. When you go to the CD or radio the sound is perfect. I am wondering why the subwoofer would not interfere with the other modes if that was the problem.

I just went through this on TV install

There were 2 sets RCAs connected to TV. Somehow the source buttons on tv or stereo switch to line in or outs. Being the TV had no outs I pulled all but yellow video in and my hum went away on amp. Just be sure to tape them and not touch each other if you do remove.

'bay, perhaps you don't hear the noise or hum when the rear speakers are on. Are you not able to turn them up with the fader?

Gene, I put the fader in the center position. Today I will play with the fader but I don't think that is the problem. AS told me to make sure that the system was in voice and then adjust the subwoofer. I did that and it made no difference. After getting the video going along with the front speakers, I go to CDC2 and the picture goes to the blue screen with CDC2 showing in letters and all speakers go off. Maybe there is something wrong with the way the TV is set up.

Just to be clear: The hum is a problem, but also I want to get the surround sound with the video. It sounds like some have put a filter in line with the subwoofer to make the hum go away but that will not solve my surround sound problem.

My problems were solved by adjusting the subwoofer. I put the on/off switch in because I didn't want the constant battery drain. Some people use a filter and that works for them. Disconnect the subwoofer and if that doesn't change things, the problem is elsewhere. It is beginning to look like you have a different problem.

Ouch - I would check all connections from the back of the tv, disconnect till the noise is gone, you might have two inspect the back of the radio connections by removing three screws and pulling the wood block out to access the back of the radio!

No wood block in the 16 DWR John. I might have to figure out how to gain access.

Also, it appears that my Sony signal controller relies on the optical ouput from the TV as well as the DIN connectors from the TV and BlueRay / CD.
