Thank you

I would like to thank everyone who replied to my post. I learned a few new things and confirmed a few others. The Air Forums is truly a great venue where we can share information.

In other words, if you are using the Netflix iPad App and you try to use an HDMI iPad adapter to connect your iPhone or iPad to your TV - it won’t work. This includes AirPlay.

Note Amazon Prime does work well with downloads and AirPlay at least for now.

This is my experience - I would be happy to stand corrected if somebody has resolved this Netflix restriction.

So this must be the problem with DirectTV too? I can use it for a few shows but then when hooked up with HDMI adapter to my iPhone and TV, I get an error message that reads no HDMI connectivity available. Funny though, I can get football games but not TV show from regular networks.

No problem setting up the Verizon 55+ for me in GA, no restrictions mentioned. Significant savings.

I find that downloading Netflix shows to my windows laptop via the windows Netflix app when on wifi works okay. It is then connected to the TV via a HDMI cable. The TV is then used as the laptops monitor. Works pretty well.

I think that the customer service people have some latitude about plan pricing, especially if they think that you're going to jump ship 'cause your buddy in Florida gets a better rate than you do!

Had a chat and then phone discussion with a Verizon rep. She checked the IMEIs of both of my phones (iPhone 6 and 6+) and said there would be no problem. The 6 came from the Apple store when I destroyed the screen on my original phone. The 6+ was an ATT phone. I am in the process of unlocking it. Verizon will send my SIMs and I'll be good to go. They also have a promotion that if you bring your own phone and transfer your existing number you get a $150 gift card per phone, no contract required. I'm still suspicious that there is some kind of a string attached but I don't know what it is yet. I should get the unlock done in a couple of days and then I'm moving to Verizon. They have better service here in NC and the same at our main place in FL.

This assumes you have good cell? If it's a cell connection, A way around that would be to get a Roku stick for your flatscreen and use your iPhone (or Android) as a hot spot.
If you can get good wifi, carry the Roku wherever you have a screen with HDMI (like most motels).
Works for me Netflix, Prime or whatever apps you have on ur streaming device of choice.

Al, you've probably done your due diligence here but I wouldn't necessarily rely on Verizon sales or techs to tell you your AT&T iPhone will work on Verizon. I moved our 5 lines from AT&T to Verizon about a year ago and while I knew the 3 Windows phones wouldn't work I was assured the 2 iPhones would be fine, even after checking IMEIs.

After days of trying to get the iPhone to activate I finally dug a little deeper (which I should have done in the first place, but still would have made the switch), it turns out that iPhones made a for AT&T (GSM) have a different radio than ones for Verizon (CDMA). Verizon iPhones will work on either network, but AT&T iPhones only work on AT&T. The VZ techs didn't know this.

Fortunately Verizon was running a BOGO on iPhones at thentime.

Good luck with the switch. I hate em all.

Happy trails,
Mike

We had a similar experience trying to move two iPhone 6s phones from ATT. Two days of trying various things but we never could get them recognized by the Verizon network. Ended up putting the phones on a hardware maintenance plan just long enough for the agent to declare them broken. The replacement iPhone 6s phones worked flawlessly.

Logged on to my Verizon account today and found a special offer for the 55+ plan. No mention of a state residence requirement. We signed up .
