Garmin 760LMT with wireless backup camera

We installed this product some years ago and have been very dissatisfied. The backup camera only works when a rig is in 'reverse' - and guess what our 2016 Airstream doesn't have... reverse. I've talked with the company who said the same thing.

Just checking if anyone has had a work around... otherwise a new camera is in our future.... Cha Ching.

A bit of a long shot. I installed a Garmin that is compatible with the BC20 or 30.

The camera does require 12VDC to power it. When I installed it I chose to get power from the running light circuit. To power camera on at any time I just turn on the trucks running lights. If I don't want to see the camera but have the lights on then I select map not camera on the GPS and continue. This allows me to power up to see rear view anytime.

Your Airstream should have reverse lights, and the camera should come on whenever the reverse (backup) lights have power.

First step is to ensure that your reverse lights are functioning. Then you need to make sure that the correct line is taped to provide power to the camera. Likely there is a missed connection somewhere and this is an easy fix.

Which garmin camera do you have; the BC30?

Not sure from your description if it ever worked. Did you splice into the reverse wire on your 7 wire cable that attaches to the TV? Where did you place the transmitter?

As for a work around, here's what I did.
I have 2 BC30s mounted in the rear. I purchased extension cables to mount the transmitters in the front window.

example, they are available in various lengths.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07951HCG9...xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

I updated and added taillights to our 58 trailer that have backup lights, but I used the 'battery' lead of the 7 wire cable from the TV (depending on which chart you look at this is the auxillary/battery + lead) to the cameras. This allows my cameras to be 'active' whenever I'm hooked up and the relay for the power circuit is active.

I have the older Garmin RV700. I have 2 cameras: one mounted on the license plate for the long view and one mounted high pointed down for backing into camp sites.

The camera is the bc20. After talking with Garmin, I have a connectivity issue. 27foot trailer and tundra=~45ft. At the edge of their range. Would have had to install an extension cable during install to have strong signal.

Yup I ran the extension cable too. Made it not permanent I have to connect it each time we hook up. Every install is different. When not in use can't even see the cable completely stowed away. Transmitter is at the front in AS.

I have the Garmin Drivesmart 61 with the wireless BC40. It has the ability to turn the backup camera on at anytime with a soft switch on the display. Works wonderfully. The BC40 will not pair with all Garmin GPSs and I am not sure if your GPS is compatible with the BC40.

The FC 26 does not have back up lights.
However, digging a bit further, Things like "comes on in reverse" have wiring to 'trigger wires'. In other words, power comes through a switch wired to your "R" on the fuse panel.
It should be doable to undo that wiring and instead power the camera from the running lights, or as I did, leave the camera powered all the time. (I have the 770 Garmin with a wireless camera) You should be able to select a camera/map icon on the Garmin.

My setup is a bit different as I have the BC-30 (bluetooth) mounted inside the rear window. I just lay the transmitter on the bed. I have never had any connectivity issues, and I can drive away to about 75' before I lose the signal. I couldn't tell if the BC-20 is bluetooth although the transmitter looks the same. I don't know what the other module is for.
So, for power I simply took one of the USB plugs and changed it to 12v to accommodate the cigarette lighter plug I put on the camera/transmitter.
It works great.......except the resolution is lousy. The BC-30 is only 295 lines so in low light it looks like a bad VHS copy.
I'm keeping the mount and changing to a Haloview camera. (720P)

I mounted the BC30 just above the license plate on our AS23D and ran the extension wire through a hole drilled at the front of the bumper box, out an existing hole at the curb side, then under the trailer to the front. The Bluetooth transmitter is attached to the upper inboard corner of the curb side rock guard. I wired power directly to the battery through a toggle switch mounted on the side of the battery box. I use a DriveSmart 61 as a display. On our previous trailer, the AS19CB, I mounted the camera just under the center rear marker light and got power from the marker light itself. Switching on the tow vehicle lights would power the camera. Putting it high like this was necessary with a bike rack on the back of the trailer. Click image for larger version
