Dometic Thermostat Replacement w/Micro-Air

In a recent blog, I read about two Airstream owners that replaced the ever-so-complex Dometic HVAC thermostat with a Micro-Air easy touch RV thermostat SY-389-X50, and made the claim that it was a much simpler setup than the Dometic.
I'm interested in this, and would appreciate any feedback from owners that have made the switch to this Micro-Air product.

Thank You,
Tom

Hello Tom,

We've lived in Caledonia for a few years. Nice part of Michigan!

I've made the switch and I do find the Micro-Air easy-touch easier to use. It is more intuitive with pictures representing the different functions.

I also like that it lights up upon touching and then turns itself off again. That is especially helpful at night.

The Bluetooth and wi-fi capabilities are also a definite plus. I can now adjust the thermostat using my iPhone.

I'd buy it again!

We bought it at the last International Rally it’s a great product and a no-brainer install.

We picked up our GT27 late Nov 2022 and was less than impressed with the Dometic HVAC thermostat. It took multiple efforts to get it to control one particular a/c unit. 2 weeks later we were having Ronnie Dennis lift her & install soft-starts. He checked out the thermostat and could not get it working correctly either. Showed me the Micro-Air in his Airstream. 15 minutes later a Micro-Air was installed in mine and SO happy with it. Very intuitive, unlike the Dometic.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Very helpful.
Caledonia...do you live there now? We live south of Wayland on a small private lake. Moved here after living in Grand Rapids.

Thank You for the quick reply!
I sent a note to the manufacturer yesterday with a question about the unit's ability to handle 2 zones, and they responded immediately. Very impressed.

Thank You for the quick reply!
We also have had soft starts installed on both AC units.
Which leads to another question...have you ever operated the AC on a generator? I have heard from others that you can run one of the AC units on a companion Honda 2000 generator with the 30amp outlet.

Thanks for the help!

Thank You to those that responded.
Between your experience with the MicroAir unit, and communication that I've had with the company about some questions, I'm impressed!

I'm eater to replace that Dometic unit.

The Micro-Aire is easy to install and much easier to use although the automatic functions (scheduling) are a bit non-intuitive as is the change from F to C on the read out. I do like starting the furnace in the morning from the comfort of my bed/iPhone! - Brad

I had Micro-Air install my Easy Start and they also put in my EasyTouch at the same time at their headquarters in Allentown NJ. Terrific bunch and support is terrific. So glad I did. As far as running your AC you can use the standard Honda EU 2000 generator as well as the Companion. Remember to switch your refrigerator to propane only and turn off your converter using the appropriate circuit breaker while running the AC!

Also- changing from C to F and back is as simple as touching the temp readout itself. Took me a while to figure that one out.

We recently switched our 13.5K and 15K Dometic air conditioners for two 15K Coleman units. We got new Easy Starts with bluetooth capability but had to replace the MicroAir thermostat that cured all the A/C issues on our Classic for the Coleman compatible model. Also involved changes to the thermostat wiring which was a challenge.

The Coleman units are quiet enough to converse without shouting and the Easy Starts ramp up the compressor gently with no thump.

Both of our trailers have hidden Peplink modems hard wired to the battery so we can access the thermostats remotely and control the electrical Vectron equipment in the Classic. Added bonus is the GPS function which can track the trailer if it were "borrowed".

I am thinking of getting a Micro-Air Thermostat 350 to replace my Dometic CCC2. It sounds like a pretty easy install … just take off the old thermostat, connect the wires … but the holes/screws has me hesitant. If the Micro-Air holes line up exactly with the Dometic, then I don’t see a problem. However, If they don’t then I would have to drill new holes. Something I am perhaps too skitterish about - maybe unnecessarily so.
Has anyone done a Micro-Air 350 install to replace a CCC2? If so … were there any mounting issues with holes not aligning and drilling involved?

One gets two buttons on screw heads after the conversion from Dometic to the Micro Air thermostat. Or one chose a large backing plate. Reason is the input location of the wires are on opposite sides of the two units.

The fitment in terms of holes is the same for the Micro Air thermostat for Dometic and Coleman. Also the Coleman A/C units are shorter, so the front and rear Dometic screw holes get buttons....

So do the holes line up or do I have to drill new ones?
