Anyone try Starlink G3 router under Air Dome lid?

Looking for alternative to drilling holes or some special weathertight connection terminal outside my Airstream International for Starlink G3 router and power supply. I have the Air Dome propane tank hi rise lid and was wondering if anyone else has put their Starlink G3 router/power supply under this style of lid and have good results?

I’ve read of some putting the router in a weather proof box under the Airstream behind the tires and still getting plenty of speed inside the Airstream.

Got me thinking of placement under the high rise and have router about front bedroom window at “glass height” to get broadcast thru the window.

Anyone out there try this by chance? If so, did it work good or did you abandon for traditional inside router placement. I am not a full timer, just a weekend/holiday/vacation warrior!

I built a small bracket "assembly" out of a Gen 3 router/power supply bracket, a pair of 1x2s and a couple L plates. I hang that on the propane tank, so it sits "facing" the interior of the trailer at "glass" height. The antenna cable just runs out to my antenna, and I power it off the external A/C plug.

Would that be of interest? I can post a picture if you like.

its best to get a 2 part pole
then wire it through an existing hole ie where the Battery cable comes in

No problem.

Here is the bracket I ordered:

https://a.co/d/cTjeYy6

I also bought two 2' lengths of 1x2 at Lowes, and a pair each of 3" "L" and 6" 90 angle steel support braces.

I then made up this "assembly", pictured below. I have it set up at the sticks and bricks at the moment, as we are in between trips. Referring to the Lowe's blue bucket, picture that being the propane tank (lid slightly open).

The 3" brackets are mounted opposite the router. I plan to bend them to make a small lip so the assembly doesn't slide off the tank cover lip.

The mounting point for the bracket I picked so the router faces the interior of the coach. I used a couple of the screws from the braces to attach the router/power supply bracket to the 1x2s.

The 6" braces are just there for stability of the assembly and to reduce the chance of the whole thing racking sideways. Being steel they also afford a bit of counterbalance to the assembly so it's not so top heavy.

I get full WiFi coverage inside, almost zero RF loss through the glass and I don't have to punch a hole in the coach anywhere. As well, since the assembly is above the battery box, the plexi shade window on the front offers some rain protection when it's extended at our normal 45 degrees in camp.

I am pretty happy how this worked out.

Great idea.
We just run our wires under bed, out back storage area out the Starlink dish. Set router on night stand next to bed. Coverage through out our 30’ Classic is great.
We have extra cable and just roll up and leave it in storage area each time we deploy Starlink.

Hi

The Starlink stuff works quite well all sitting on a table next to the trailer .... you don't need to go too crazy.

We do the same thing. I have a 27' FB Twin Globetrotter. I bought a 15' cable that will fit in the corner of the front storage compartment and route the 15' cable through the small opening between the bed platform and the sides. Once that cable is inside you can place the router wherever you want. I then purchased a water proof combiner to connect to the cable coming from the Starlink. Whenever I pack up to leave the campsite I just unplug from the starlink and store the cable in the storage compartment. If you don't have twin beds I've seen people do the same with the front storage compartment beneath the queen.

It's simple and it works with no drilling.

Great idea! I was hoping to get some ideas and so far been some good ones. Nicely done and it works! Looks like easy set up and take down. Thank you for sharing this….

Another option to consider, which works really well for me. Mount your StarLink in your tow vehicle and point your router towards your Airstream. I have a fiberglass topper on my pickup and actually mounted the antenna under the roof, with the router facing the back. We have strong internet on the road, strong internet while parked, and no set up or tear down.

Definitely something to think about....and I like the thinking! I don't have a toppper but I do have the "Air Dome" lid on my propane tanks and kind of the same concept. Thanks for the idea and definitely if I do get a topper this becomes a very viable option. All about the no setup or teardown. Thank you!

You have a smallgap between the head of the bed and exterior front storage compartment. AS used foam weatherstripping betwixt bed/bedside table and front skin. Allows you to have router on bedside table and both cords routed through the gap so power supply which resides out of sight down in front storage. No drilling. Antenna cable routed same way and coiled in front storage to be deployed as needed. I was going to seek a more permanent solution but then discovered that the new mini has the router combined with the dish… debating whether an “inside” the can router is better than one x feet away “outside” the AS metal skin. Your solution of under the propane dome seems viable as well.

The water proof combiner used something like this

I like this concept a lot. To make sure I understand, you have:

- A M/M Starlink Ethernet cable plugged into the antenna, outside
- Another 15' M/M Starlink cable plugged into the router, in the front storage compartment
- This F/F adapter off Amazon, which plugs one end into the 15' Starlink cable, the other end of which hangs just outside the compartment, which you plug the other Starlink cable in to?

I'll have a look at my rig (25 RBT FC) and see if I can use something similar. That would be very convenient.

Thanks!

You understand correctly. The combiner that ToddD mentions looks like the one I have. If you look at my 4th picture, I just don’t have the cable from the Starlink plugged into the other end yet. I initially was going to plug and unplug from there each time. Once I started using the Starlink, it was easier to just leave all the plugs combined and plug / unplug the cable from the Starlink each time and leave all the cables in the front storage compartment. When the combiner is outside I just hang it over my stabilizer jack rod to keep it elevated off the ground.

To clarify, my router stays inside the airstream where ever the 15’ will take it. I usually just keep at the foot of my twin bed and use an electric outlet inside or my yeti goal zero 1000 to power it.

In reality, if your original Starlink cable will fit thru the storage compartment you wouldn’t even need the combiner. I preferred to keep the cables separate.

I have a 27 FBQ.
I put the router and power suppy in the same space as the water pump (Under the closet).
1) I replaced the Cable TV port with a CAT-6 / CATV combo port from E-trailer
2) I threaded a short length of CAT-6 from the port to the space under the closet (its tedious because the CAT-6 runs through the wall insulation cross ways for around 15 inches. I used the old CATV conductor as a pull line)
3) I install a 120 outlet in the Romex that runs through the same space (again tedious since a common RV punch down box is best (not enough Romex to be cutting wires, but punch down boxes are a pain without room to work)
4) The range on the router is somewhat limited by the aluminum shell but it does reach out far enough I can work outside the rig
4) I put the Starlink dish on a 30' extendable flagpole when camping. The flagpole sits in a 2" hitch bolted on the A frame by the propane tanks and I extend it only as high as required

Starlink mini

I recently bought the Starlink mini. Router built into panel so no need to run anything inside the coach. I plug it in outside receptacle or campground electric hookup outlet. Everything stays outside and it works great. No drilling required.

That makes it nice to have everything built into 1 piece of hardware.
