Where the heck R U ?
Where the heck is everyone?
I just drove from Houston to Chicago to Wisconsin, to Cleveland, than to Alexandria on to Memphis and now to Dallas.
Saw 2 Airstreams headed in the opposite direction, a MH at a local gas station, and a new Bambi unattended at a camp site.
I think the statistics should read "80% of all Airstreams are still in backyards, instead of on the road.
Get out their folks!

I must agree to the dearth of Airstreams that we see when we travel. Lots of SOB's. However, we are still a working couple so our road time is limited.
The most Airstreams we saw was going to the International this year in Salem. But they were going the other way!
I did see one in the Home Depot parking lot the other day with their side window broken out.

Ditto here...still working and carting around the kiddos. I saw two this past weekend on the Mass Pike... one newer, looked like a 26' Safari going east and on Sunday what looked like an 80's one with a canoe on the TV heading west. Son gave me a high five when we saw them ...nothing is cooler than passing another or seeing one.

Tonight, we are at the KOA in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire. We are a week into a month long Airstream Excursion. We are going to head to Bar Harbor, Maine in a couple of days. We plan to spend a week there. From there, we're on to Cherokee, North Carolina for a week or so. If we can work it in, we might go by Jackson Center and take the Factory Tour. Maybe then we will go home, maybe.
So far on our trip, we have seen only two Airstreams going the other way on the Interstate.

My Twink is down at the lake property. I go see him almost every weekend. We bought the property so we wouldn't have to reserve a campsite and haul him down there. Saves wear on him and on the Tundra. We'll bring him home for the winter for touch-up work and winterizing. I miss having him sitting out beside the house. I miss working on him every spare moment too. I think this is the best of both worlds until we retire and get a home built at the lake. Then he'll get to travel to other places.

Ours will be up in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA- Northern most part of MN) this weekend with three other couples... canoeing, fishing and playing until we need a rest... then it will be back-to-work. Do not expect to see too many up there! The last 30 miles of road are DIRT! CAN'T WAIT!
You're point isn't lost on me though... we traveled 3,200 miles recently on a trip and saw but a handful of other AS's. Greeted them all with the familiar wave nonethelesss.

Our TW is still 'classing up' the foot of our driveway. (My son-in-laws description). We bought the AS in April, I retired 7/31 and have been really busy since. I don't know how I ever had time to hold a job!

I'm in NM currently headed back to FL. I'll be on I-40 to Amarillo, then to Dallas, down I-59 to LA and I-10 thru the Gulf States. So far on th road from Hood River, I have seen 3 A/S's only and only 1 acknowledged my flashing headlights! What's with these people?????
Anyway, If any of you are out and about......flash those lights and wave!!!!!!

Later this morning, we're leaving the Grand Teton Nat'l Park and headed for Yellowstone for four days. Weather forecast looks bleak after today. Showers tomorrow and snow for the following two days. Guess I'll be fishing in inclement weather.
Then three days on the road to return to Phoenix. Heading down I-15 to Cedar City, UT then over to Page, AZ, 89A to Flagstaff and I-17 home.

My Airstream is in the front driveway waiting to be used this weekend! If you can get down this way, we are having a rally October 20 at Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds and we have 23 signed up! Should be a wonderful thing to see!

Highland Haven
We leave "Spirit" at Highland Haven Airstream park from early May til mid October. We love to use Highland Haven as our base camp. When we are not going on trips we use our Airstream as our "summer mountain house."
Come on up and visit us some weekend!!

Our's is parked for now. Our next trip is the end of the month with an undetermined location in Tenneessee as our next port of call. We have been on 6 camping trips this summer since Memorial Day and if you didn't see us, well, we're sorry.
We've camped in 5 different states...that's 1/10 of the U.S. in our first season of Airstreaming and we agree with what you are saying. We have seen other Airstreams on maybe half of our trips and that has been maybe 1 to 3 per trip. The most we saw were at Ft. Wilderness at Disney World (6) and on I-75 between Atlanta and Orlando on that trip (2).
I read an energy consultant from Conn. say that he expects to see gas at $1.35 again in the future. I hope so. Maybe then we'll see more Airstreams on the road again. It's sad to think they are languishing in the back yards and storage lots across the country not getting used for their intended purpose.

We take the 'Stream out about 8-10 times a year. Even at that, figuring the odds, chances of seeing us on the road would be slim.
We have 2 trips planned for next month: once to the central Sierras, once to Refugio State Beach near Santa Barbara.

Were are you
I'm in the Premier RV Park in Salem, Oregon until the 19th then off too San Diego, California for 5 days then too Palm Springs for 7 days then Austin, Texas for the winter.
Except for outings with the new Dallas club, I will sit out the winter in Austin and then head out again.

I'm out here...or as some would say "he's out there!" Traveling I-40 today from Winston-Salem to Hickory NC. Just another great day in the Carolinas. Stopped yesterday at Out of Doors Mart to pick up a few bits and pieces from Paul in parts.
I actually say quite a few AS's as I crossed the country both ways last month. New, old and some I wasn't quite sure of.
