What vacuum do you keep in your AS?

April and I have been in our AS for just over a month now and are seeing the need for a vacuum that isn't so cumbersome that it needs to be stored outside in the storage shed. Dewalt make a sweet 1/2 gallon handheld that runs off their 18v battery packs (glad I didn't get rid of my yellow and black tools when we made the move to full time! )

Looks like it should stow away nicely and has a 2.5 foot hose for getting under the dinette and between the closets and bed... April likes it cause it seems like it will be good to reach tough spaces, I like it because I'm hoping I can get a few plumbing fittings and be able to suck any backup from the a/c drip line...

What make an model do you keep in your AS and are you satisfied with it? Where/How do you store it?

We spend about 8 months each year on the road. We installed the Dirt Devil central vac system and can't imagine anything else. Comes with a very compact hose that extends 30'. Will even reach out the door to vacuum the tow vehicle. Installed under the sink in an area that was not much use for storage. The tools take up very little space.

We have used this Dyson DC24 for the last two years in our 34 Classic. We have been full timing for over a year and a half, and storing it hasn’t been a problem, as it will fit in a closet, but ours seems to rest in a cubby next to the dinette.

We usually rely on our OXO hand broom and dust pan.

We also keep a handheld Dirt Devil Kone, designed by Karim Rashid, in the trailer for times when we're plugged in. It's wireless and it's illuminated charging base also serves as a great nightlight. It's no Rainbow, but it's sufficient at picking up stuff from hard to reach places.

The following photos are of my Kenmore model 20185 (C) that I've used since purchasing the ASCL in 2001. It fits under the couch on the street side between the battery box and the couch frame with the attachments stowed between the couch frame and the street side arm rest. Has plenty of power and has served me well.

I got this one free when I got a cordless drill set:

It weighs about 2 pounds or so, and is very compact.

We also use the little DeWalt shop vac in Lucy. It works very well, especially with the extender rod and brush end. We use other DeWalt 18 volt tools with the trailer, making the batteries multi-purpose.

Our son gave us a Roomba several years ago, and at home, we could never figure out what to do with it.

But when we got the trailer.... It does a surprising job for such a small, self-propelled device, and is very easy to use and maintain.

Also, there are lots of spare parts available for it, although we've never needed any.

From iRobot. There are many models, some of them pricey. Heck, they even have a waterproof one now, for the shop!

We use a rechargeable handheld dust-buster type with a rotating bush. It does a decent job- even getting the dog hair out of the rugs. Gets 2 or 3 uses to a charge.

We have a Kenmore canister vac here at home, and recently bought the Kenmore Evo 21000 Hand held vacuum (Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more that uses all of our canister attachments (like the powered broom, or pet hair attachment, etc) and is really quite powerful.

Dirt devil ultra. Very small, but you must get on your hands and knees. Stores under the couch arm. Does a great job. I also have the attachment kit.

I recently bought an Electrolux EL1014A ErgoRapido Bagless Cordless Handheld/Stick Vacuum Cleaner from Target ($100). I wanted a cordless, lightweight vacuum stick for light vacuuming between cleaning (pet hair, etc.) and found this one. I like it alot so far. It is a a 2-in-1. You can use it has a vacuum or pull off the dust buster attachment. It's been great so far. It uses a regular plug though. However, the vacuum stick has 2 power options to save the battery. Looks like Amazon has it too. I haven't used it in the trailer yet, but the other day, as I was using it around the house, I thought it might be handy in the trailer.

I used one of these while I was living in my trailer. For a 25 foot Tradewind, it was just right. It stayed stored upright in its charging stand by the end of the galley counter.

We use one of these as well. Friends of ours told us about it. They use it in their house too. Eventually, their first one died, but they kept the charging base and bought a new one. Now they have a charging base in their home and in their Airstream. It's a great little unit. We got ours at Costco.
