Ahhh -- Checotah, OK. Can't tell you how many times I've been impressed that getting across Texas is more than a day's drive. And you had plenty of significant distractions getting going this morning. You're making progress at least -- and not too sapped out I trust. Do you plan for getting close to New Mexico tomorrow night?

Set your topgallant staysails crossing the prairie in anything less than 25 knots and you'll be halfway to Maui by Thursday. Steady as she goes sailor!

Thanks, couldn't for the life of me remember the name. Worst part was I was sitting there. Tired, yeah that's right I was tired!

Tonight we are in Tocumcari New Mexico. WoW! The scenery has been very ecletic today. flat, rolling and some mesa type mountains. I'm a nurse, not geologist, I'm not sure what they are called, but it looks like some one came along and chopped the tops off!

Saw my 1st oil drilling rigs, route 66 for the 1st time, and many Indian casinos and gift shops. Saw part of the LBJ ranch from the road. Altogether it was a pretty neat day.

I'll let Terrry tell you about the falling blanket locker over his bunk. no he wasn't in it, but some one needs to fix thier roads!!!!!

And I thought Arkansas roads were rough...
We hit a stretch in Oklahoma that knocked not only the starboard blanket locker, but the entire roof locker, off the wall! I made emergency repairs to rehang the blanket locker and roof locker, and installed the closet flange for the toilet. We have a toilet again, although the stuff that was in the wayward lockers had to be reshuffled to minimize weight in those compartments.
The last time I was in Tucumcari was 1972. The only thing that seems to have changed, is the Interstate is now complete, and many businesses are closed. Most of the buildings are still standing, albeit vacant, giving the place a quasi-ghost town feel. There is supposed to be an air show here tomorrow, though we will be gone long before festivities commence. Todays distance was 485 miles, about what I had budgeted for a day's journey. We are, however, a half-day behind where we expected to be. I had added a half day padding into the schedule at Flagstaff, it looks like our visit to the Petrified Foest will be an abbreviated one. We also want to meet some forums friends near Gallup tomorrow, and chat for at least a few minutes.
I notice Marie didn't share the B van camping experience with you, and all I'll say is it is a lot smaller than Bertha. It kind of reminds me of the old George Carlin piece he did called "a place for your stuff". We have gone from a house to a trailer to a B van, and we do have a tent, though I think I'd rather have my hair set on fire, and have somebody put it out with a sledgehammer, than use it.

Strangely, there was a couple from a town very near where we are going, and they know the place I will be working, so we have at least 2 customers! I also have a photo of a late model Safari that showed up just before dark last night. I tried to get "artsy", and show Bertha and the Safari in the same photo, but light conditions were less than adequate.

Hi Terry,

Why don’t you put up a photo of the aforementioned blanket lockers? They are the first ones I have seen. I’m sure others are unaware of this option. I’d like to have one curbside in my Excella’s bedroom. Streetside, the headroom is already limited under the existing locker.

A few places to think about if it's getting late tomorrow are:
Loves Truck stop in Joesph City
Flying J in Winslow
My favorite is the Meteor Crater RV Park which is about 30 miles West of Winslow. Nice spots, super bathrooms and a nice pet run area.

Thursday morning several of us will be meeting in Flagstaff between 9 & 10 at Little America, Bulter Ave. If you need fuel or a bite to eat, stop by and say Hi...

We'll be leaving in a few minutes, it's a bit after 6 am local time, we should be on the road by 7. We have reservations in Flagstaff, so with any luck we'll be spending the night there. We're going to "stop by" the Petrified Forest, and I'll try to take a few photos there.

Take the time to drive through it and see the sights. Takes about 3 hours or so.

Marie, they are Mesas ("table" in Spanish).

Tucumcari has declined for a number of years. Traffic used to go down the main street before the interstate so a lot of businesses have closed. Traffic now skips it and goes on to Albuquerque or Amarillo. At least one trucking company used to have a depot there and that closed many years ago.

Hello from KOA in Flagstaff, Az. We stopped and had lunch with Rich, Eleanor and Emma Luhr and had a great visit. It was so nice to see them again. Sophie enjoyed seeing them also.

No problems today, thank you God, good traveling weather and traffic.

Still love the scenary. We are sitting on the side of a mountain and relaxing. We were going to stop and see the petrified forest, but time was against us, so we are thinking to take a trip back here in a few months to see several places we wanted to see.

If traveling on I 40, be careful, there is a lot of road work being done.
