RV insurance while full timing

Hi All,
I just got off the phone with Allstate, Progressive, Esurance, and Answer Financial insurance and none of them would insure a travel trailer that is lived in full time... anybody have any suggestions as to which company insures full timers?

Check with Americas' Mailbox. They know that their users are full-timers. You may have to register in SD...but you only have to stay 1 night to be a resident.

Be sure to investigate the health insurance situation there before you go. SD has zero nationwide carriers. We have FedBlue which covers us world wide. The catch is you have to be a federal employee.

More and more the government and insurance industry is basically telling us we don't like you living out or your RV because we can't tax you enough.

Me too, in Texas. But I had to go through an agent to get it. Ron Jarvie, Overland Insurance. Recommended by another Air Forums user. Simplified my life dramatically.

I had to drop State Farm completely after they refused to insure me full-time. I'm a Good Sam member and went through them. (They are a "insurance broker" ) Ended up with the coverages I was needing through National General Insurance. Bundled my 2 auto's, Airstream & full timers coverage together for $216/ month here in Southern AZ.

it is my understanding that Medicare is nationwide, but I would check it out first. I have another year before I am eligible.

We're full-timers domiciled in SD and on Medicare. No problem.

The supplemental insurance is State-specific and when we were gathering information one person questioned our location because we kept our cell phone numbers and the area code wasn't a South Dakota one. Once we explained that there was no further problem.

Need to know basis. Establish residency honestly and wisely and keep everything else to yourself. How often you use your camper may increase the odds but that depends on how often it is on the road or stationary and other factors. It seems that more and more things are set against some and given to others. (oops, getting political)

Alot of issues have arised from the new HUD rules dealing with small square footage living.

A way to bypass and get insurance is to simply have a friend or family member that lets you establish home of record with them. You can get a PO box if getting mail there is a issue.

Whatever you tell anyone is exactly what you tell them.

Be honest with the is insurance company. Supply only the information they request. Do not try to embellish or double talk them. One small lie can and will get claims denied.
