How we carry the grill

Steve, yes we do keep the Q1000 grill in a rubbermaid roughneck tote and transport it in the truck bed slide. One of our inflatable kayaks fit perfectly on top of the tote. Here is a photo of the BBQ tote (gray and black) with the kayak bag on top of it.

I happened to be at Costco one weekend when they had the Traeger grills on sale. We ended up with a Scout pellet grill. I never thought I would go with electric, but I love the smokey goodness that comes from those pellets.

We have been full time for over 3 years and travel with a Weber Q 1200.

A year ago at the San Antonio Live Stock Show and Rodeo, we happened upon a Traeger booth and they had a small pellet grill called the “Tailgater” that we purchased. The deal included a cover and inverter to run it off the truck battery if necessary. The legs remove or fold under itself to sit on the tailgate or tabletop. Most importantly, it fits under the tonneau cover in the bed of our 1/2 ton GMC.

We mail order American Wagu beef from Snake River Farms and would never consider a going out for a nice steak dinner at the finest restaurant over what we can prepare with this setup.

the "Q"

Baby Q with the optional griddle for 1/2 the cooking surface, it fits in the rear storage compartment, sits on a boot tray. The Weber is the only grill that we have seen that will run in windy weather, actually cooks a little hot, most of the time we run it on low. We use it everyday, hardly ever cooking inside. 8 years of very heavy use, had to replace the legs because raccoons pulled it off the picnic table and broke one side

It is called ”Typhon East Portable Stainless Steel Charcoal BBQ Grill”.

There are different sizes small, medium and large.
Doing a search on this led to an interesting rabbit hole I went down regarding portable grills... Thanks.

Single Firepit doubles as grill

Used to being a separate fire pit with light volcanic stones and Nexgrill 18x12 stainless cook stove.

After a while, realized fire pit is already a propane controlled hot surface and grill unit which heck of BTU more room than the separate grill constraints . Plus Already set out in table near or under awning.

Cooking or heating outside, We bring mesquite chunks.. throw few on an we have the perfect outside ambience / combo in-one with less clutter.

That’s a good point on the fire pit vs bbq. Those pits can get HOT too

Yup ! Having superior capability in an item that also double duties is key with limited space/weight Restrictions. Added a light protective pizza tin underneath to better shield surfaces (not that hot anyway in our case).

(Think our purposed grill gave much less BTus / longer heating delays plus restricted big pan sizes and that sparked the ah ha moment for us !)

We full-timed for 8 months. Did not carry a grill. Did not miss it. So, that's a vote on the other side.

You gotta check out the expeditioners. They are a family of 4 full timing in a Bambi I believe. Pretty sure it’s a little guy too. Airstream ambassadors as well.

Talking grilling everyday

always carry a grill, since outside is why we are there. watch out for park requirements and burn notices. I like the charcoal grill the best and use a smaller 10x 16 size with adjustable size. I got mine (cast )with steel grill in a garage sale. You can usually pick one up if youre staying a week or more in a camp site. I frequent the local flea markets / garage sales and than if you need the room recycle it to a fellow camper.

I carry both NexGrill grill and a bin for charcoal for the firepit. If the firepit has an adjustment elevated grille, I would use charcoal.

I camped a lot that makes it like full time. Often for work and workshops as well.

Just like your jacket/ credit card/ grill..."DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT."

I carry a BGE MiniMax, grilling, smoking, avoids extra heat buildup inside the camper...I will not cook on the campground provided charcoal grills (you never know what was there before). A quality meat on a personal grill is always better than a steakhouse.

How do you transport the egg? I’ve been considering buying one as well for the camper. I have eggs at home and love them.

The smokeless grill works wonderfully inside the airstream or outside. We have used both often while traveling. Perfect for steaks ,hotdogs ,pork chops. Also wonderful for asparagus & other vegetables. Our other favorite piece of cooking equipment is the Instapot. Makes the most wonderful pot roast in 55 minutes. Hard boiled eggs in 7 minutes, and I cannot forget the jasmine rice in 7 minutes. these two pieces of equipment works beautifully in our Airstream. Wouldn’t leave home without them .Safe travels and enjoy !

We like to BBQ while traveling and just replaced our Webber Smokey Joe with the Traeger Portable wood pellet unit. We’ll see how it goes. It was just rereleased . We have enjoyed it at home and expect the same thing while on the road. Good Question!

We use a Solaire Everywhere. It is a small Light infrared grill. Easily fits in our front compartment with lots of room left over. Easy to get in and out. Just right for two people. Stainless steel. It is the Airstream of portable grills.

Started off carrying one, but decided not to in the end. It was messy, got ants, didn't like buying little propane tanks, didn't like cooking right next to the camper using its tanks, cleanup was a drag, cooking tools take up space...

Maybe I'll reconsider in the summer, but I like stovetop and oven cooking just fine.

I also got rid of my microwave.

I'm a super minimalist... so... there's that!

I have a Weber Q1200 which uses small propane tank, or a hose to a 20 lb tank or another hose that goes to the propane port on the Airstream..... flexibility! We also carry a Yakatori earthenware grill and use hardwood lump charcoal and lumps of mesquite or hickory for those special grilling occasions!
