Extended Stay in my Backyard

Hello,

Last summer I purchased a 1979 Sovereign that I have parked in my backyard. I use it as a studio.

Since I'm not towing it anywhere, I'm thinking I need to get it up off the wheels.

I bought four jack stands. Here's my question:

Where should I put the jack stands? Under the main frame rails somewhere I assume, but where?

Please advise.

Under the axles is the best place, close to the frame rails. However, unless you have a perfectly level place to put the jack stands, you might stand a chance of twisting the frame. There are places marked (usually anyway) under the frame to put jacks, but if you put jack stands there for a long period of time, I think you still might twist the frame.

Other than the deterioration of the tires (which is going to happen no matter what you do), I think it's better to leave it on the wheels and just put the stabilizers down.

For a 31 foot trailer, you will need 6 jack stands.

2 at the rear, just forward of the bumper.

2 forward on the backside of the A-frame.

2 on the axle mounting plates, between the wheels.

Make sure the base of the jack stands are on a solid surface.

CAUTION DO NOT, under any circumstances, place a jack on any part of the axles. To do so, can ruin the alignment.

That's as per the axle manufacturer and Airstream, and years of experience.

Andy

Andy is right, don't put the stands under the axles.

What I meant to say was, put them under the frame near the axles, not under the axles near the frame. However, I'd still be concerned about twisting the frame and body.

Hmmm...

The surface is not very solid.

I think I'm going to leave it on the wheels for now.

Thanks so much for your input!
