Best diesel discount programs in US

Hey, just getting out there and wanted to know if there are any diesel discount programs available? We bought our first diesel truck and have heard a lot about "diesel" fuel point programs. Any information is greatly appreciated!

Best,
Bob and Cindy

Same for me - TSD has the others beat hands down. Just be sure to research where you stop ahead of time. The discounts are not always good in all locations, and as they renegotiate things change. Right now I believe TA/Petro is the better discount, but you should check with their app to be sure.

Does anyone know if tsd works at Quick Trip Truck stops? They have one where I live. It’s not really a truck stop in the traditional sense but it has a separate diesel only island with lanes for semis. The pumps there have a separate card reader for the truckers cards and pumps for Def fluid.

Another vote for TSD here.

TSD may work at your Quick Trip, but the view may not be worth the climb. Not every fuel center gives TSD a discount, which means truck stop fuel can end up costing a lot more than the "in town" stations.

The particular QT I’m referring to is always about $.05 cheaper on diesel than anywhere else around me. And it’s very convenient for me to stop there anytime which is why I was asking

Trucking companies all negotiate fuel prices with various vendors, and then will have their drivers use those vendors whenever possible to get the best price.

The program TSD runs utilizes a payment card issued by EFS. It's pretty much the industry go-to for the trucking world, and it will be accepted at nearly all truck stops. However, the fact that it's accepted for payment does not mean that you'll get a discounted price. That will only happen with the vendors TSD has a negotiated fuel discount in operation.

They have an app which tells you which brands are receiving a discount and how much it is. The discount can actually vary from location to location within the same company.

I just did a search near Winder, GA for fuel, and the closest name to what you're asking is a place called Quick Fuel, but they are not the cheapest when using the TSD program. There's a TA in Columbia at $2.469 which seems to be the lowest around, and a few prices above $3.00 so there is quite a wide variety. Best to use the app.

Brian - download the app & then see if the station pops up. If it does, you’re good to use.

+ 1 for TSD Logistics. Love's and Petro/TA usually have the best discounts.

I believe you might find "cheaper" prices, even with the discounts from TSD if you're willing to drive away from interstate stations. With that said, I love the convenience and time savings when traveling from point A to B. I was hesitant at first, didn't know what kind of reaction I might get from the truckers on the commercial side of the stations, but it's never been an issue as long as you follow the rules and don't "hang out" at the pumps. I always buy DEF there, I assume always fresh, and it is less expensive than the boxes.

I am wondering about independent stations. We're headed out west and will be on a lot of back roads and not sure if the card will work or if any discounts will be available.

You can input your route into the app and it will show all fuel stops--with special emphasis on the lowest prices--along your journey. I use this functionality when we get into sparsely-populated areas. Every morning before take-off, I log the route and then plan on where to fuel up.

Costco Citi Card 4%

Don't forget the Costco Citi Card gives you 4% back in cash. That's about 12 cents per gallon, and it works everywhere!

What's the average discount for the TSD card?

If you stick to the stations with the larger discounts, you can get a quite substantial discount. I've seen a range of about $0.35 - $0.70/gal, but typically about $0.40 - $0.50/gal

2600 miles over spring break and we averaged $0.52 per gallon discount.

I actually think the TSD discount is closer to 16 cents /gallon after you pay them and any transaction fees. I just traveled from FL to NC using Loves and TA and the discount was exactly 16 cents / gallon after I accounted for all the fees. Still better than using the Good Sam card at Pilot and getting 8 cents off of the credit price. The TSD card gets you the cash price plus a discount but you do have to pay them a fee for each purchase. I'm still think the TSD program is the best option and I love the convenience of using the commercial side, pumps faster, bulk DEF, and pay at the pump. As I said in earlier post, you might find a better price away from the interstates or major routes but I guess I'm wiling to pay for the ease of use at the truck stops.

Bad data. That's the problem with thinking instead of actually knowing.

FACT: I calculated a net $0.52/gallon discount, after all TSD charges and fees for the entire trip. Using the app to plan ahead helps save a lot of cash over long trips.

Yup...TSD
It is hard to figure out how the discount works...

You pay an access fee for each purchase. Fuel when you need a lot of fuel, not just to keep it “topped off” as that spreads out the fee.

You must allow Debit withdrawal from an account you have. There is an immediate DEBIT hold of about $60...
You can get an email with the details or login and work the numbers.

Independent, mom/pop, “convenience stores” do not participate in this program... the app helps.

When you can’t use the TSD card, get a credit card return...and, “cash” usually saves ...a little. Gotta work the numbers...

You can fill at a truck pump.using a card sometimes, instead of doing the perp walk to the cashier. Truck pumps are fast.. takes a little practice to fill, can’t hang the nozzles and go buy twinkies and moon pies and Mountain Dew. Fill your truck then move.. please.
