Third Journey

Our new to us 2007 396XL is awesome. We traded in our 2001 390XL for it. Although it has more mileage than our 01, I like the color more and it has a few more desirable features that the 390 did not have. Has anyone experienced their front side driver's windows fogging up? It appears that the fogging is in the middle of the "SE-GI" windows. Also the entrance door window is going to have to be replaced as well. SE-GI E-mailed me and told me that I would have to buy the windows through Airstream......I'm sure that is going to be very$$$$$$$$$ and I don't want the same problem to happen again so I would like to have the windows made locally here.

I just purchased a Sky Deck and it too has most windows fogged. There is a place in Sacramento (and most other states as well) that takes the perfectly good windows apart and cleans them and rebuilds the dual pane. The other new Sky Deck owner here just had his done in Arkansas at www.rvfogdr.com and seemed happy with it and it was not anywhere as expensive as buying new window, especially thru Airstream.

I have not tried to buy replacement parts thru them, yet, but just expect that to be a profit center, or at least to be charged for them having the parts when manufacturers go out of business making finding original parts difficult.

I found a lot of the info on fogged windows with a google search, like this:
How a Company Fixes Fogged Double-Paned RV Windows

I had my windows done there. Nice people doing a nice job. Cost depending on the window is around $300 per window. Have it done early as they only can fix it as long as the class is not damaged from the fog the also can cut replacement glass.
You can stay there overnight they do have power and water.
Airstream is not a big help on parts my rain gutter over the entrance door was missing Airstream answer was that they don't make it anymore.

I need to replace one of the ceramic tiles on the floor near the shower. Airstream obviously does not stock them anymore and even if they did they would probably cost $229.95 per tile plus shipping, plus crating, plus, plus, plus. Does anyone know who manufactured them ???

It is going to be tough handling three projects this winter, but being that I am in my PRIME I think I can handle it ! I replaced the front roof marker lamps today and adjusted the ride height on the front air bags. The list is not as long on the 2007 396XL nor the 2005 34' Classic S/O. as the 1989 325LE. Our last trip this season will be Cooperstown, N.Y. for the Columbus day weekend. I have made a decision to take the 34' Classic to the International Rally in Lewiston in June 2016.

Beautiful weekend here in Cooperstown, N.Y. Fall leaves starting to change, crisp air about. The comforts of the 396 XL far out way the 325LE but i'de rather have the 325LE...I just like it better...the wife and the kids disagree !!!Click image for larger version

They are certainly prettier than a modern fiberglass RV. There is an Airstream gathering at the casino near here. I am seeing Facebook pics from there and it's a field of self described "beer cans" and one 325. Not a single fiberglass unit. I really wanna show off my Sky Deck, but guess it won't be to the aluminum crowd.

I was originally interested in getting something like an Argosy, they are what you think of when you think classic motorhome. There are some on the streets of SF, decades old but the aluminum doesn't turn to crap the way the old corrugated RVs do. I fear the fiberglass may not hold up too well either.

The only reason I ended up with this RV is the wife wanted the washer/dryer and the dishwasher I have yet to install. The giant basement is not to be sneezed at either, although it does kind of smell down there. Hard to get all that on the smaller RVs.

Yes I love the Classic too but full-timing in it would be to crowded. I always joint the WBCCI and had no problems with either the steel interstate or the Skydeck. Actually they all love it as we have happy hour always up on the roof.

We are back in our favorite spot with the 07 396XL, for the Memorial Day weekend.....blue the cobwebs out of her, cleaned the carpet and here we are ! Really hot, all AC's working great. The Cummings is such an improvement over the Cat I had in the 01 390XL......unbelievable difference. I was going to sell the 07 this summer but I am in negotiations right now with a 370LE in North Carolina. If I get the 370 I will be selling the 325LE. Regards, Bob

I woke the 396XL up yesterday, going to take her to Cooperstown, NY this weekend for a shakedown cruise and get ready for the 3 week trip to Yellowstone later this summer, Thanks to my good friends at Trombley's Auto in sunny downtown Breakabean I was able to get it up on the lift yesterday (Sunday), change the oil/filter inspection and overall check from underneath. Regards, Bob

So, inevitably the "Shake Down" trip has produced a list of "To Do" things before the Yellowstone trip. Leveling system worked fine before the trip....now, she no worky...DAMM, left rear docking light out, DAMM...probably a bulb, microwave outlet dead, DAMM, water leak behind city water inlet, extremely low shower water flow, probably a hidden water saver somewhere, install new DVD player for front overhead TV, install new AM/FM antenna on roof. Other than that all systems appear to be operational. Regards, Bob

The "Lippert" leveling system has stopped working on the 07 396XL. I am getting a warning that the jacks are down when in fact they are up. The vertical lights on the left side of the control pad blink on and off. Has anyone else experienced this problem ???? I'm thinking a possible pressure switch problem but this is new to me....I'm going to try and call Lippert service today but with it being a holiday weekend I'm sure they will be closed. Regards, Bob

Just so you guys know the circuit breaker for the microwave is located on the side of the xantex inverter/converter located in the right rear outside storage compartment. Replaced the bad docking light, and removed the water savers, now the shower has great flow. I also took the blue ray player out of the 325LE and replaced the original 5 disc changer in the 396XL.Click image for larger version

I finished the repair of the leveling system.....after 4 calls and 2 hours of phone time with the technical service department I should have just gone with my own experience.....they were all set to sell me a $700.00 motor when in fact my problem is dirty contacts on the solenoid board....the jacks are down now and the coach is level. When I get back to my shop I will disconnect all the wiring and clean all the terminals and di-electric all the terminals to prevent any further problems. Regards, Bob
