Braver man then I. I couldn't figure out how to remove those pipes from the metal surround when I had a valve not sealing issue. I was lucky that I bought a similar looking valve at Lowes and just unscrewed the inner mechanism (probably the same as you to remove the surround) and then replaced it with the new inner one w/o removing the body from the plumbing that would have required buying a set of Pex tools.

Thanks to good friends (Frank & Diane) at Metal Supermarket in Albany, NY, I picked up the steel bracing to reinforce the 2 fresh water tanks in the 396XL. I am going with 11 gauge 1x3 rectangular tubing across the bottom width of the frame rails with a 6 x 54 piece of 3/16 plate x 2 running front to back of each tank.....that should do it. I am also redoing the terrible job that Airstream did when they installed the heating ducts into the basement.....honestly they would have been better off just leaving them out. Regards, Bob

as I understand it, there is a float switch in the pump fluid reservoir. As the jacks retract and the fluid moves from the piping and jacks back to the reservoir, the level rises and the float switch finally gets satisfied and then the "jacks down" light is extinguished. Honestly, I didn't look to see how old this post was, maybe you fixed this a couple years ago!

Bob, glad I found this thread you've been posting. We are enjoying our 365xc and familiar with some of what you've been experiencing. I hope we don't have any problems with our fresh water tank as we are full timers and have no shop to work on the unit .. we'd have to put it in a shop and live in a long term rental hotel until its fixed,, thats the scary part of the full time rv lifestyle ... when it breaks .. you're screwed

Got most of the steel bracing to reenforce the fresh water tanks (2). Primed them today, will paint them tomorrow. Im going to remove the front tank to see if I can get to the hydraulic lines that go to the front levelers.....there appears to be 3 lines per leveler but only 1 line for each at the pump, there must be some other connections somewhere where Im not looking, in any event well sort that out on Saturday, Regards, Bob

Pushing forward with the priming and semi-flat black paint on all the new fresh water supports for the 2 tanks. Were also going to start pulling the front side windows out for replacement on Saturday.....:Ill be happy if we can remove the frames from the body without too much drama....,,Regards, BobClick image for larger version

Good luck on the driver's windows. From what I have read they were not well designed as the rest of the windows in the RV. Kind of a hack. But mine are totally fogged so they have to come out at some point.

Perhaps take pics as you discover what needs to be done to remove them. Save the rest of us time

I've got an 02 365XC and all the windows are fine, but I know it'll just be a matter of time, so yes, pictures of the removal procedure will be valuable for all of us.
Thanks Bob!

Finished up priming and painting the new steel supports for the water tanks. I also ordered another leveling valve for the right side where there is nine. I feel the only way to level the 396XL correctly is to install this extra valve. I think the reason it is omitted from the build sheet is the worry for the windshield to pop out of the frame as it did on my 2001 390XL. I think the real problem is using the levelers as a jack to change a tire or for extreme angle correction while camping......well see......Regards, BobClick image for larger version

Another full day on the 2007 396XL. We finished the new supports for the rear fresh water tank, it is the hardest because of its location above the grey and black tanks and wedged in between the frame rails. The front tank is completely exposed once you remove the decorative carpeted panels. A very difficult job but its done. We also removed the front right door window glass as well as the passenger vertical sliding window, not a technically difficult job, just a lot of labor. I have to order new rubber schnegel (LOL) and 1/2 wade foam perimeter tape then we can reinstall the new laminated glass. We will remove the front left drivers window next weekend ( its huge) and Im sure heavy, so if we get that done I also have to remove the left rear escape window and repair the red latch that unlocks the window so it will swing out. Regards, Bob

I ended up cutting more than 30 of useless 1/2 white pex out of the water closet area. The line that goes from the black water tank flush first travels up into the 396XL and ends in a loop near the shower mixer valve. There was some kind of useless vent/check valve screwed into the side wall behind the shower wall. I had to use a 36 pry bar and access it through the cabinet on the floor in the toilet room. My black tank flush will now go directly from the connection in the water closet to the 2 spray heads in the black water tank. Incidentally that valve was never connected behind the shower wall........probably why I always had a slight sewer smell in the toilet room.Click image for larger version
