Slide out Cutter 35 DP

I am a newbie coming into RVing. I am trying to avoid having a slider out but am now looking at a 1998 Clipper. My question is will the kitchen function properly if the slider is not extended? My thought here is that if not used then it shouldn't become a problem.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Rick

Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. Quick question... would you buy another Airstream?

I have a ‘99 Cutter. Currently restoring it. The slide-out doesn’t affect anything, except swiftly moving about.
Enjoy!
I also have have a 2018 Classic 33.

Sure wish they would put slides in again starting with the 25.

I lived in the Denver area for nearly 20 years. My first Airstream was a 28’ Safari with a slide out. It was a wonderful thing - more room. I became aware of a company which would repair/ remodel/restore RV’s, Campers, buses, etc. they had a number of Airstream customers. They were told, by Airstream, in essence, ‘don’t put slide outs on AS any more’ because of the potential failures. Huh? I loved mine!

The kitchen - and the rest of it is fully functional on our 35'Cutter regardless of whether the slide is in or out

I just work on keeping it from falling apart as fast at it would like to.
Must admit that our trip up the Dempster Highway and on to Tuktoyaktuk didn't improve it much - especially the thick layer of calcium chloride on everything below floor level.

Window gasket creep and water damage under front and rear cap junctions and the odd bit of delamination make it truly unique, but even then it gets lots of nice comments about the appearance.

Just watch out for everything. If a dog’s life is 7 to 1 of a humans life, I think a Cutter is 15 to 1. I think is Cutter is well build, but the ‘gadgets’ are questionable. The motor, drive train and transmission are most important. Keep reviewing the forums for other’s experiences. Good Luck

See the attachment.

I can guarantee you will never see another Airstream Cutter at this place.
Never!

I can tell you that driving on 30km of freshly laid and watered calcium chloride does even worse things than 800km of fairly rough/muddy/slippery gravel rd

I think I would have probably abandoned it there and call a helicopter rather than drive 500 miles of gravel back

Impressive pic

Nearly had to. That calcium chloride mud broke some wiring hanging down under the engine that I thought was just wiring associated with towing - which we have never had - so I cut a few off short and tidied it all up.
Few days later we went for a drive and found I only had reverse gear.
Was a bit of a worry until I figured out what had happened and reconnected one critical wire.

I don't know which organization(s) built your slide out mechanisms but industry consolidation has resulted in Lippert becoming the source for most of the mechanical and electrical parts to repair slide outs. Most of the gaskets are found elsewhere.
