Black tank removal

I have a 2000 35XC LAND YACHT.
I have what seems a crack in the top of the black tank. Getting fumes inside the coach and have tried several options. So far nothing working.
How to get to the tank so i can inspect it.

Don't know if this will work inside the tank, but you can probably snake an endoscope into the area above the tank to inspect from the outside if you can find an appropriate opening using one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If your tank is empty you might be able to use it inside the tank, but I'd want to use a plastic protective sleeve on it to protect the camera. Search for 'endoscope sleeve' to find them.

Your tank might not be cracked - there are other problems like a vent tube which is slipped from its mounting point on the tank or cracked which could be the problem, or a rubber mounting collar for something which wasn't installed correctly.

Another possibility...

Your tank might not be cracked - there are other problems like a vent tube which is slipped from its mounting point on the tank or cracked which could be the problem, or a rubber mounting collar for something which wasn't installed correctly.

Great point.

Another possibility is the toilet flange, which is screwed to the floor same as in your home, has cracked down below the floor but above the tank. The flange itself is likely screwed into the tank.

Because the flange is fixed at both ends, age and pounding down the road can cause the flange to crack, allowing seepage through the crack and onto the outside of the tank, producing the odors.

Might be worth a look before you tear out the tank.

Good luck. John

A few years ago, we were having a similar problem with odors in the bathroom. We finally figured out our toilet bolts were broken, and causing odors to escape from the black tank into the trailer. Might be something worth checking out also. Easy fix.
