Stinky Propane Onan

Our Diesel Land Yacht has a Propane 5500 Onan Generator.
The exhaust really stinks of Propane, although it runs and
funtions fine otherwise.
We like to use if for A/C on the highway but went not moving
the smell is so strong my co-pilot complains.
Any suggestions?

take it to a dealer and get it fixed. it should not smell of propane when running. you probably have a propane leak. if so there could be a fire or explosion.

Genset exhaust

Paul,

I had this problem and certified Onan center repair person said it was just the exhaust smell as he could find no leaks with sniffer. It is bad smelling, I agree. I bought a Gen-turi exhaust vent at Camping World and it works like a champ. Takes the exhaust and vents it up above the roof line where breeze can dissipate it. I love mine and use it at every overnight stop or extended stay. Takes about five minutes to set up once installed.

Propane Onan Smell?

This is information to share:
The souce of my strong Propane smell was a dirty air filter on the Onan.
The dirty air filter caused the engine to draw more fuel and run richer and
blow the excess fuel out the exhaust pipe. PROBLEM SOLVED with a new filter during the regular service of the unit.
A Happy Camper.
