Roof leaks in a 1999 Land Yacht

Is this a regular problem with a 1999 Airstream Land Yacht? The leak is in the front top of the roof where the seam comes together.

I have a 1999 labeled 2000, it has had chalk applied to the seams, found a leak just over the drivers door where the roof meets the sidewall. PO had put in longer screws as some of the wood has deteriated. I chalked and replaced screws with intent to check from inside, but that is a big project as the headliner over the driver has to be removed along with curtain rail etc.
Also found marker lights leaked showing up as water in the courtesy lights over the dash. took them off caulked and replaced, design of marker lights can't stop driving rain.

if this thread stops you for a p3, you need to do more research on other brands as far as I can tell, all have joints, stress and leaks.

Just bought a 1992 Legacy 31 ' great condition other than the roof leaks!!!! Easy fix!!!! Get on line and order some EtrnaBond Tape on ebay. Bought 3-4" rolls , about $60 per roll. Get your MH inside where it is clean dry and warm.. I got on top and removed all the caulking on the seams. Then I removed all the screws & rivits from the trim piece. Clean with lacquor thinner let dry. caulk under trim with 50 year silicone. Replace trim with stainless screws just a little wider but not longer. Let this dry for one day. Read directions on EternaBond tape and install... Real easy to do. once you see it go on, you will understand why it will never leak again...I had some left over, so I sealed around all vents, ect. Why pay some guy that works for a repair shop that doesn't know what he is doing.. Try it it is real easy...

We purchased a 1996 Land Yacht which has developed a leaking roof. Anyone have a suggestion on best product to use .We are really new at this ,but are willing to try anything before there's no roof left!!!

EEdeed you didn't say where the leak is at but if you have read the previous posts, you have read a couple of hints on fixes. If you continue searching you will see one member was so dedicated as to take off all the roof, never did see a completed outcome to that one. I found a leak under the caulking used to seal a vent, never would have known it was happening if I hadn't been in the process of replacing the bathroom vent, water can pool on roof and work past sealant.

Regardless of the make, any structure, be it a building or an RV, is subject to water leakage around any penetration or joint. Answer on an RV that is subject to sun exposure and flexing due to temperature extremes and movement down the road, is to inspect all joints and seams at least once a year and address any cracked or missing caulk.

Very very true. If someone says their trailer or m/h doesn't leak, it just means that they haven't found the problem yet.

I repair, restore and renovate Airstreams in England, the roofs shouldn't leak? Any way of getting a picture of the problem? May just need a tighter pinching rivet or mastic or something, shouldn't leak! We've had originals from the 60s and they are sound! Maybe holes wer drilled at 4mm and had 3/2mm rivets in, a bodged job?
