Newly installed step problem

I just purchased a new Kwikee # 28 step and the brown wire that goes to the door switch operates backwards. The manual says grounded brown wire retracts step, but when you close the door it grounds and opens when you close the door. Where do I look first before I take more apart than I need to.

After more research I got on the Kwikee site powergearus.com and the very first question in the trouble shooting section.
1. I installed a new Kwikee Step and it is operating the opposite of how it should. Why is that?

It is probable there is an issue with the magnetic switch. Make sure the step is installed with a new black (normally open) switch.


Now to find one.

Yep, you answered our own question. Kwikee changed the design a number of years ago and reversed the way the magnetic switch works. Replacing the switch is the solution.
