Land Yacht windshield tint
Has anyone had the windshield on a Land Yacht tinted. My dash A/C does fine in the midwest in 85 degree temps, but we are going to Tuscon in a week and been watching their 95 degree temps, and I'm thinking to myself that this is going to be one hot trip. Yes, I know we can use the generator and run the roof A/C unit, but propane ain't getting any cheaper either. I work in retail and we are always tinting our front store windows to keep out the excessing heat and cut down on product fading. So why can't I do the same for the front windshield? Makes sense to me. Anyone?

Check laws about front windshield...
I think is something about your line of sight and a few inches above, but not below.
Seems like it was 6" above line of sight, nothing below that line.
See lots of cars that have drivers that must be real short too.

Windshield tint
For anyone interested, I have learned of a new product by 3M called crystalline automotive windshield film. The specs are pretty impressive and as it is clear, not in violation of any state's tinting laws. I am going to Arizona later this month and may have this installed there as I can't get it locally in Midwest.
Here is the link.
3M Crystalline Automotive Windshield Film Products
I'll post results if I decide to do this.

Hey Gunworks: Our dash air never does cool the whole coach in the summer heat. I start the generator and run the roof airs on the road. Man, sometimes you could hang meat in there when its really hot outside.

Yes I know. I have done that also. But what if you didn't have to run the generator as much. What would you save in propane (which I'm sure you have noticed ain't getting cheaper) and service intervals on the genset? And then if the RTU or genset goes belly up from over use? I would sure like to keep things simple. I have no trouble in 85 degree weather, but at 90-95 it gets rather sicky even with the RTU going. If I can cut down the heat coming in the front glass by 50%, I think I'll give it a go.

Cost?
Gunworks -
Is the aprox $439 install cost what you were given? Seems steep, but then if it works as advertised...? Can you provide a 'cost' estimate, also what is the size (sq ft) of your windshield? Would this be a '1 piece' install, or 2, more? Curious as to the size limitations (is any) of the product, both in length and height.... Does the product provide any 'shading' like normal window tint? Saw that there is some diminishment of visible light (VLD) through the stuff - does this concern you or 3M as it will be on the windshield, ie. visibility possibly in poor conditions, or at night? Are all the products (they range in ' VLD') allowed for the windshield application?
Sorry for all the questions, perhaps you or the vendor can 'clarify' some of the ?'s.

Cost
Don't know any of the answers to your questions. I expect to be talking to a rep today and will certainly try to get all of these questions plus some of my own answered. The $400 plus for installed does seem to be a bit steep and I may opt for DIY installation if not any different than normal window films. We shall see.

I'm not commenting on legality, but I can tell you what works.
Put a dark strip of window tint across the top of the windshield,
above the line of vision. Heat reflective vinyl.
Put clear "Titainium vinyl" on the rest of the windshield. There may
be a new name for it, but it reflects the UV rays and appears clear.
IT WORKS!
Cost about $125.00 at the local tint shop. I then had the entire
rest of the coach done in limo tint with maximum heat reflection.
That cost $400.00
I had a GMC with really large windows and it worked there too.

Paul-
We also have a 75 Palm Beach that the wife and I have really enjoyed but wanted bigger bedroom, (sideways bed was pain in middle of night, for manditory "facility runs") so we just bought a 36 ft LY. Glad to hear you love yours (having a similar frame of reference! .) Hopefully we can meet sometime in the future and compare notes!

Do a search for www.tintdude.com and you can find the laws listed for each state. Some will allow tinting to the ASI line and others will not. I would think that the the laws in the state of registration would apply. Love our Land Yatch
