It's time for rear airbag replacement

Well, it time to do what I probably should have a few years ago. No problems so far, but I felt like I was pushing my luck with 31 Year old rear airbags. Last time I looked at them, they looked pretty cracked. They still held air, but the question was for how long and when would they fail. It was only a matter of time.

I contacted my local RV repair center and had them give me a quote on replacing them. They came in at $1516.82 to purchase and replace the airbags (parts and labor). Given the difficulty of replacing them and my current time availability, I decided that this was a good deal. I usually work on my own RV but this time it's going to be done by someone else.

RV center just called that the airbags have arrived, and MH is scheduled to be dropped off on the 6th. 31 year old airbags are so iffy. I'll be so glad to have them replaced.

Air bags are in and so is about 50' of new airline and fittings. Final price was actually $2586.00 due to having much of the airlines and fittings replaced. System is holding solid pressure with no air leaks. Now on to the rest of the winter maintenance.

Wow.....was $2586 just for the 2 rear bags or did they do the front too? Mine will leak down in cold weather but I usually put the front levelers down to keep it at right height.

It was originally $1500 for just the airbag replacement but when they began work, they discovered that all of the airlines were brittle/leaking and need to be replaced along with several fittings. So basically, they replaced everything from the compressor back to the airbags minus the air valves. Total time was 10 hours of labor and the cost of the airbags, airlines and fittings. They replaced about 50' of air lines. Keep in mind that this is the first time that the air bags were replaced since 1992. Long overdue.

Replacing the rear airbags on a P30 chassis with TAG axle is not a small undertaking since room is at a premium and they didn't want to gut holes in the floor.
