Harvest Hosts

I'm being invited daily to join this group offering free camping across the country. I'd like to hear someone's experience with this. Their ads are nicebut...you know...

We have made numerous overnight stays with HH and enjoyed them all. Wineries, farms and museums. They are dry camping and the host are very inviting. There is an expectation that you will purchase something and we always do. A bottle of wine, some cheese or maybe a hat. I enjoy HH very much.

We use them. And like them. Have stayed in some interesting places. Coordinating with sites can be challenging, but not bad. Bought some ok wines, beers, stayed at a hobby farm in north FL, bought fresh eggs etc.. I recommend them. Our travel style changed when I retired. We used to drive all day and into the evening, hit a Walmart lot, get up and drive early the next morning. Wanted to spend as much of our one week vacation at a nice campground. Now, we take it easy. Stop earlier, and enjoy the journey as well as the destination.

Our plan was, maybe still is, to go through Montana in Sept. Go through Washington state and down the coast. Might still happen thanks to HH. I had heard from someone else while at a HH spot that some of the places out west are booked up for months in advance. Hoping that’s not the case. Good luck on your trip. Totally jealous I wish we were headed to MT now. Have friends in Bozeman and relatives in Hamilton. I may be moochdocking with them.

We did Washington last summer...stayed at South Beach campground in Olympic Park area...very nice if you get there on a Tuesday/Wed. morning..right on the water! No power but we loved it! Drive along 2 in WA is real pretty and lots of camp grounds we stayed at a couple and took our time...going back we hope sometime in June.

A reminder that there are other HH threads and posts, if you want to widen your research zone.
