Airstream Motor Homes

Are they still making them? I just an 06 Land Yacht 40' for sale. I have a Airstream TT, but am curious if the Airstream Motor Homes like the 06 Yacht is a good choice as far as motor homes are concerned.

Not going to get much of a opinion from me; as far as I'm concerned, the newer mo/hos look like the box mine came in!

Airstream Motor Home

I was interested in thoughts/experiences relative to a newer, larger motorhome, slides etc, how Airstream compares in qualtiy, etc to other manufacturers of higher end models.

AS only makes the Interstate class B motorhome now, based on the Freightliner Sprinter chassis. zz

Airstream discontinued the motor home in 2006. There was some feeling that did not provide enough profitability (according to their announcment at International in Salem). The only one they have now is the Class B as Zig states.
There was some concern over quality but from what I have seen the land yacht was a pretty decent home. We have some friends that have one and they have no problems with it.

There has been some push towards getting one of Thor's RV companies that manufacture MoHo to create an A/S Edition but it has met severe opposition. It has been brought up at the last 3 International rallies but has been defeated.

Well, as you can tell there is a fair amount of animosity towards the fibreglass motorhomes on this forum. Well, motorhomes in general too. Too bad I think. That's why we dropped out of the WBCCI.

Airstream has always made a quality product and the folks we know that have the fibre glass motorhomes like them. I would pay more attention as to how its been treated and how much use. Look at the fibre glass for bubbles where it may have separated. Be sure to test drive all the systems and the unit itself.

I have a 1987 Air Stream 345. I bought it from a guy that let it sit for to long. I think I have most of the bugs worked out of it. I would not trade it for anything else.

I brought it to Florida for Christmas. On the way down it was running around 200 to 210 degrees. I think this is to hot. No idea of what the thermostat rating is in it. Any help on what the thermostat temp should be at?

Also Mike Leary I like what you said about the new AS. I like mine cause it looks like an
Air Stream. When you travel down the road everybody knows that this is an Air Stream coming at them.

190 to 220 is normal for a 454. I've replaced all my gauges just so I'm sure.

That Classic Airstream motorhome would have been so very cool. It had to be very disappointing that they were not able to move forward with its production.

I was on that interview with Rich Luhr and Bob Wheeler in 2004 when Bob was in charge of Product Developement and Engineering. It was a very exciting time for me to meet the people at Airstream and to be along as photographer for Airstream Life.

I can only imagine what kind of motorhome they would have produced. What chassis would they have used, (mercedez sprinter van, isuzu commercial van, p30 chassis with new gmc 4.5 diesel motor, upscaled electric motor with room for batteries with 500 mile range and superfast charging ) for the 25ft and less floor plans. What about other technologies they would have thrown in. Don't get me wrong, I love my classic, but having a modern motorhome shaped like the silver bullet is the way to go. Must have been a sad day for Bob and his team when the corporate bean pushers said no.

Great photos though Carol. Do you have any more of the actual design itself, I'd be real interested in seeing them, but understand if there's copyright issues.

New Classic Motorhome.

Hi, I think the design of the New Classic Motorhome would be great, But between Airstream and BMW designing and building this motorhome, I think it would be just too expensive for almost anyone to own one. They could make two units, one for Oprah and one for Bill Gates.

Airstream Motor Home

As the others have stated Airstream no longer makes large motor homes only the class B.
I have a 2006 A37, one of the "buses" or "boxes" as they are referred to. My wife and I are very happy with it and would recommend them to others. I have put over 30,000 miles on it in the last two years without any problems. We will be taking it to Alaska next summer with no concerns about the coach.

Still love the Airstream MH

Dean, you are right. Airstream built a nice coach, but didn't sell enough
and got out ahead of the rest. I think they felt a big obligation to produce a quality coach to carry the Airstream name.
Ours is the genration ahead of yours and we love it too. Even with it's fiberglass front and rear (instead of aluminum) it's really aerodynamic
and well built. We looked at other brands and passed them up when it came time to replace our old GMC, and styed with the sleek Airstream.

We just returned from a Christmas visit with our "kids" in the West. I couldn't believe the numbers of "new" MH's, 5th wheelers, cars and pickups that I saw. I would not be surprised if the RV industry was the next supplicant to the bail-out process.

Our 2005 is great

We are the second owners of a 30' s/o with about 16K miles, bought last May. No, it doesn't look like an aluminum tube, but it still has Airstream's thoughtful design and extra touches in it. The original owner took it to Banks Power (zoom) and added some suspension/steering parts, but that is still not the way I want it. A trip to Henderson's may come up this summer. However, its just a joy to live in, and when its parked in our driveway we go out, fire up the furnace if needed, & sit in it for a cocktail and a little tv in our rolling lounge. we looked a some new 30' on the market but are really glad we found this one. It took some time, though, so be patient, and just like buying a house, have a list of mandatory items that you can't live without. The dinghy trailer & Honda Insight tow beautifully; I have to keep checking the monitor to make sure it is there.

I am not currently an Airstream owner but have always admired them. I have found an 06 NEW all electric A39 Land Yacht and trying to get all the info I can about it. I didn't know why they stopped building? Are they any good? What about service on something no longer made by the company? I know they don't look like an Airstream but I was going on the reputation and quality of the homes that they have been making for years. Anyone that has one I would appreciate you guideance. This home has a very attractive price on it for a new rig.
Thanks,
jagtag
