Do you love your Airstream Classic enough that you would keep it after lotto winnings? Here's a question that should get you thinking. If you won the lotto, would you resto-mod your Airstream with new chassis and new engine or would you just go for something brand-new?

If I won the lotto I'd buy a friend's Airstream 360 diesel pusher that he sorta-kinda wants to sell, finish my 28' rear-bed Argosy project in GRAND style and start looking for summer property above 7000 feet somewhere.

Here's what I would do:
1. Quit work
2. Repair/update as needed to keep it beautiful and functional. Who knows? I might even install a washer/dryer.
3. Enjoy it.
So, I guess the answer to the question is resto-mod.
Fuel injection and other functionality/reliability upgrades possibly.
Brand spankin' new motor and transmission and suspension possibly.
Either way, I would wait until the need arises to approach any modification.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
But, if any breakdown offers the opportunity to make it more modern/cool/reliable/awesome, by all means, go for it!
Keep it? Most definitely! Without a doubt- or buy a new to me 94-96 diesel pusher-

If I had all the money in the world I would still want a 360 diesel pusher from 20 years ago!
Polished up, shined up, ready to roll, but might have the latest and greatest engine and drive train and audio/video and internet.

Well, no question about keeping it! I would do a full Cummins diesel and modern transmission, bring it back to Airstream for a stock polish and original paint, Land Yacht interior, then set off around the globe.

I'm afraid if I won the lottery I'd go buy a large property, hire a caretaker for it, build a huge indoor storage, and ADD TO my Airstream collection

I'd buy the AS corp, hire all you brainiacs to design and build them... They would all be old school body style, with modern amenities, yet maintain the selling prices asked for the current model lines.

Completely refurbish the Minuet for escape and refresh as needed. Start a school for building musical instruments. Buy and refurbish a Theater Pipe Organ as a central school project, and then teach until the money was all gone.

I'm afraid I have done just about every upgrade I can to my AIRSTREAM CLIPPER, and it really needs nothing except maybe a new set of house batteries.

I agree with a previous post #3 about keeping stuff until it is broke beyond repair, so I guess if I had large amounts of money, that would allow me keep the CLIPPER forever.

I am not sure I would order a new bigger and better, as with it would just be a new life of frustration with all the new gadgets that won't even last until the warranty expires.

The most I can win in Canada is 50m so my choices are limited compared to your PowerBall jackpots.

I'd give all of my loyal employees the biggest amount of cash I could without giving them tax blues, then modify the 401K plan so they'd ROLL in money and add a serious financial trainer to help them manage it all well (without me nebbing into their private business). I'd let my partner retire with a big payoff and best wishes... but I'd keep the business and probably buy out a dozen or so competitors just to give my best people a place to grow and to keep me out of mischief to some small degree.

I'd also take care of my sister and brother so they'd be secure the rest of their lives (and not want to knock me in the head for an inheritance!). I'd be gracious to an ex husband and whoever his current wife is. I'd be less gracious to most of the relatives and high school boyfriends who might suddenly want to re-enter my life.

I'd get GOOD advice about how to help the nieces and nephews without ruining their young lives - too much money too early - never met a person who wasn't ruined by that.

And for MOI? Colin: a center bath Avion would be headed your way. I'd get a 30 foot Serenity with Recliners for my "Va. Beach home", Keep "HORSE" (finally named Eddie Bauer) for East Coast travel trailer, get an Oliver for major boondocking in the Southwest and mountains.... and I'm undecided about what to do for the West Coast. Might have to visit Area 51 and see what is interesting in inventory there.

Last - I'd travel and set up impromptu rallies everywhere to meet all the friends I've met here. I'd also get lipo.

What I would NOT DO: Get a Prevost and hire a Chauffeur to drive it. (Actually SAW that once.)

I'd get a new Tundra, tastefully appointed with leather seats..... but none of those garish wheels they put on their deluxe editions..... then a new 27 foot International...... then do all the stuff that Paula so eloquently outlined, after which...... i'd tell the world..... seeya and travel around the US to my heart's content with my lovely wife at my side :-)

I would put a black and gray tank in my Avion, buy a campsite in Ohio for my wife to visit her brother, another site in n. Ga or western NC, and continue to live in my one thousand square foot home near Gainesville, fl. After that I would travel, travel, travel.!! Jim

Paula, I too would take care of my employees, set up education for grandkids, move to small craftsmen style home with two porches, one screened, covered storage for airstream which would be upgraded to 25'. I do not need millions.

I would pay off the house, build a big enough garage to hold the Caravel and both Miatas with extra room for a shop. I would send the Caravel up to Colin to finish restoring, so I can free up more of my time. I would buy that 46 Ford pickup project I have my eye on and hire out some of the work on that. It would take some time, but eventually all the projects would be done and I might have time to enjoy the use of them.
