Windsheild wiper weirdness

hey,
Quick question, with my new glass, and squirters working, why don't my wipers sweep together. My GMCs wipers were just as big, and they had one motor, and both wipers swept in sync. This AS wipers are totally independent of each other. Is there any way to make them sweep together? DJ

No; two wipers, two motors, two switches...........no complicated geared moving mechanism to keep lubricated or replace when it eventually breaks. On the up side, you carry spare parts all the time; if the drivers side switch, motor or wiper arm craps out on you in your travels, just replace on the road with your passenger side components. Wouldn't be able to do that if you have everything tied together.

The original thought many years ago was two independent wipers were not as mesmerizing and helped keep drivers awake. That idea went away many years ago.

Our units with two separate and independent systems can be joined together with a single switch that also adds an intermittent function. Surprisingly even with separate motors the stroke rate are very well matched but the travel speed within each stroke varies just a little because of different linkage lengths.

In my 84 there is one switch to control both wiper motors.

If you have the single switch version and looked behind your dash and found 6 heavy duty rectifiers on a heat sink, they go between the switch and the motors.

I guess the reason for the rectifiers is to isolate the individual motors when one goes to park position while the other is still trying to catch up?

Edit to add: I seldom use my wipers anyway. Either I travel in good weather, or if I cant avoid it, I use RainX to keep my view clear.

Hey,
I was so hoping you wouldn't say that. I was hoping for some kind of equalizing rod, or a means to electrically sync the motors. It's like an old bronco, with two motors. Maddening. Well, on a cool note, the size, and pitch of the glass makes rain X the perfect thing. It works great. My only beef with it is when you wash your glass at a fueling place, or if you use the wipers, the rain x kinda washes off. It's great on the goldwings windsheild.
I'll try the one eye open trick. Thanks bob.

Independent. Worth noting that on my 250 (possibly all), there is a wiper control module under the dash. I think I posted schematics under an old wiper post.
