What weight antifreeze?

I need to refill my tank as the engine runs hot and I am almost empty. What weight and brand of antifreeze should I use for my 1987 345 with a Chevy 454 engine?

That should take regular off the shelf Prestone recomended for GM. I used that and added a can of super coolant from NAPA. It dropped my summer operating temps to a lower level. Even in 100 degree heat.

It is a good idea to check the thermostat and to backflush the system if you can. There are easy back flush attachments you can put into the heater hoses, also form Prestone.

Is your water tank low regularly? Might also be a good time to check for leaks.

New radiator in Fall 2009. Only use it to go back and forth to the repair shop. LOL!
