What size patio mat?

I am new to RV's. What size patio mat should I buy for my 1991 350LE? I have not measured my awning. Should the mat be the same size? Thanks for your help. Steve G

My Safari is 22' and the awning is 12'. I use a 16' x 8' mat. The extra is a good place for coolers, etc.

What is a good brand that doesn't "murder the grass"?

Unfortunately, I don't know of a particular brand that doesn't kill grass. (My experience, as the owner -- and mower -- of the grass, is pretty much limited to the receiver of the effects of thick mats.) We don't carry a large mat in our rig, just a small foot mat.

For me, years ago now, we picked up a piece of remnant indoor/outdoor carpet. Perhaps it is 6 X 6'. It easily folds up and goes in the back of the TV. Anysize would work and I find it lasts forever.........God bless.......Dennis

We use the 'leisure mat' item # 12842 from camping world. Have used it for years. 7' x 15' It is light weight, durable and folds up pretty small. I believe it's on sale right now. It is longer than the awning, which works out well for storing extra things outdoors.

The Bambi has a 10' awning so we generally use a 8x12 mat.

Next month we're camping at a state park that's a dust bowl so I just ordered a 8x16 to give us a little extra coverage.

I'm with Eubank. We don't carry a big mat. We didn't camp in many places last season where we could have used one. There were either too many rocks, too much mud, too much sand or the campground host wouldn't allow them. We'll see how it goes this year as we caravan for 50 days in the desert Southwest and 50 days along the Atlantic coast. But I bet we don't find many times where we'd use a big mat. And aren't they a pain to carry, always damp and full of sand, dirt and bugs?

There always seems to be so much that we wind up taking with us, that even just thinking of a mat makes me tremble a little.

And where Henri the Sov lives when he is not travelling we are fortunate to have 20' X 18' two-level deck.

So far we are able to remain mat-free.

The one we have is easy to sweep off. It has an open weave and a lot of the sand just sifts through it. Sometimes I have to hose it off in the driveway if I bring it home dirty, then let dry in the sun.

We like to use one because it helps us to track less dirt into the MH. Otherwise, things would get very messy very quickly.

I went to Lowe's and bought off the roll, so you can get any lenght you want. Limited colors possibly (4), and it maybe only 6' wide. But it is light weight, indoor/outdoor and folds up compactly.

I have the 15x7 mat from Camping World and my awning is 15x9. Honestly, if I had it all to do over again, I might even go bigger with the mat. It has made a huge difference in how much sand and debris that gets tracked into the AS. It's also nice to be able to step outside under the awning barefoot to relax and enjoy an evening drink or that morning cup of coffee.

This is the mat we have. Works pretty well. THere are similar ones that are open weave so rain water doesn't pool. They come in a variety of styles and colors.

I got mine at Costco and it was cheap and dries very fast. Also it's very light weight.

i have stayed at some private campgrounds that do not let you use mats. check there rules befor you put it out, they kill the grass.

We have only camped at S.P. and so far have not been to one that has any grass to worry about where the mat goes. I used a small one at first (about 7' x 14') and found it was not big enough. When it rains, it is nice to have the water run off from the awning go on the mat so there is no mud splashing up. We now use a 9' x 18' one that is great. I like the idea of having the extra coverage to keep the dirt and mud away from us. It is a poly weave one that dries quickly. Usually, I pull it out onto the road area to sweep off both sides (get any bugs off!), fold it up, put it in the supplied bag and into the shower area it goes. If bad weather when leaving, fold it and toss it in the shower to clean later

We have a couple of these, too...we like them a lot because water goes right through them and they are very light... And they are made from recycled plastic bottles... The size is perfect for the 19'...
