I am at the point of reassembling the rear body panel that I discussed
in my "stupid, stupid, stupid" thread. This question is as much about
technical issues as it is about style.
I took the original camera apart and it is in pristine condition inside.
The outside of the housing and mounting bracket have some rust.
Not too hard to sand and paint. I don't know if the camera works
but the whole system does not work.
Should I weld up the holes and use one of those small cameras mounted
somewhere else? Perhaps just above the spare tire? Is it violating
the AirStream Classic style to get rid of that great big brick hanging
off the rear end?
Should I put a modern camera in the old housing? Perhaps a security
camera like this:
HFW4239T-ASE
That one has much better low light performance. While I have it all
apart I can run a new cable for the camera.
Is there an advantage in having the camera mounted so high?
I was also thinking about some camera systems that also have cameras
looking back on each side of the vehicle to cover the blind spots.
Pete.
