Towing a Jeep Wrangler with a Classic 310

I bought a newer toy last weekend that my wife wanted it's a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4 door and was wondering if anyone has any input if this vehicle can be towed behind my 83 Airstream Classic 310 Cummins diesel allison auto. Thought if it will I can save a little on not having to buy something else. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks Jim

If it's a manual, just put it in neutral

If it's an automatic no

I see a lot of jeeps on the road behind motorhomes, if 4x4 should be able to put the transfer in neutral, and should be good to go Jim.

You will need to put a brake system in the jeep for brakes! 2000 lbs with out brake assist on the toad. The jeep is what 4000 lbs?

Stopping will be your problem!

Also do be sure to beef up the motorhome tow hitch. The factory setup is kinda flimsy and only rated for 2000lbs. There are some pics on here, it's not too complicated.

The only comment and it's not first hand. If a manual trans make sure nothing inside the Toad can slide forward, hit the stick and pop it into gear. Like luggage, supplies stuff etc.

A co-worker told me this tale about this happening to his dad's Suzuki Samurai and it was spinning the engine IIRC backwards and ruined the engine. The "luggage/thing" moved forward while during a hard brake application hit the stick and put it in gear.

Thanks will check out the rating on my tow system on the RV. It is a automatic and I will make sure nothing is loose during tow for sure.

If the OEM system has not been beefed up, highly recommend doing it. A PO had it break away on our 310! They had mounted the new system to low, I repositioned higher and added more welds and supports!
