Yup, the Airstream Gods were playing with me today......

I contacted the guy selling them but he couldn't tell me the manufacturing dates on the tires as they were in his Dad's garage. So I made arrangements to take the work truck to Harriston (about 40 kms one way) to check them out, and he would bring them into work.
All the tires were new or almost new with the vent nubbies still on the rubber tread but the youngest one was 0806, made in the eighth week of 2006. He was flabbergasted when I turned them down. I told him that tires when turning stay pliable, but when not used get hard, and when loaded and eventually turning will develop checks and cracks.
It's back to square one and buying tires from a dealer. At least with the dealer I can insist on less than one year old rubber from their distributor.

It's -14C outside but tomorrow the one who wears the pants in the family and I are going to pick the foam for the three couches we're getting reupholstered in the next couple of months. My upholsterer is charging me $300.00 labour per couch to do the work. Foam if needed is extra.

You are actually lucky Tony. Those are the cheapest tires you can buy around here. They can be had for just under $200 each. I don't know if you can get Tire Rack to ship to Ontario because they are showing Bridgestone's for $238 right now.

$300 per couch must be the going rate for these couches Tony. Mine is in the shop right now getting done and they quoted me $300-350 for labor. I supplied the foam and material. I changed the design from the original 3 cushion to a 2 cushion. Hopefully it will be done this week, Ill get some pictures posted. Are you doing the recover of the door panels below or is the shop doing it? I bought a pnuematic stapler and have been working on the recover of those door panels and the overhead cabinet end caps. That stapler is fun, no nose safety so you can shoot staples across the room if you want to, too bad we dont have a cat.

I'm lucky at $300.00 Mike as it's an old friend that's doing the work but his shop is almost 2 1/2 hrs away. I was quoted $700.00 labour at a shop nearby.

We finally went to the foam factory to pick the foam and decided on a Koosh KN31 density for both bottom and back as Koosh is very resilient and long lasting.

We are also changing the front coach to a one piece cushion to match the rear couch's as the girls did complain a bit about the valleys when sleeping. My wife also likes a cleaner design.

Yes I'm also doing the panels below as we have an upholstery stapler at work. I have already done the upper cabinet ends in the leatherette that we used on the cabinet gable ends beside the couches. The only problem I ran into was the cap between the two upper units as the leatherette was too thick to replicate the stock upholstery way so I had to fold the leatherette over the sides of the cap and then apply a 1 1/2" leatherette cap along the front edge.

Oh crap one more post and I'm a rivet master......not good.....I really feel I don't know enough about my rig to be considered a master of anything. My "Mistress" is the master of us all as she decides what acceleration is appropriate and what effort she feels is needed to stop, not necessarily in any corelation to how much pressure I'm placing on the bloody pedals. I'm sorry to say but she reminds me of trying to move my Uncle's cows on his farm in Wales. If you hung on too long you were just there for the ride.

At 08 - 06 those tires are almost 9 years old & well past the replace-by-date!!

... even for cars/trucks with more pliable sidewalls - let alone on a TT with fixed wheels applying more side forces in turns, & where 3-5 years replacement is recco'ed!

Maybe suggest that the guy sell them to a car or trailer museum looking for display-only tires?
