Rivet The story of the Airstream 310 Jacket

Back in 2002 I won an ebay auction for this Airstream Jacket, which I have proudly worn to all Rallies and Airstream events.
It features a picture of a 310. After owning and restoring a 280 and a 345, the prophecy was finally fulfilled. I took possession of 1982 310, which is mechanically in good condition, due to all the work performed by the previous owner in the last 10 + years. Cosmetically it will take a lot of work, since it has some endcap and awning damage and is due for an extensive interior make-over.
I can't wait to get my hands on this new adventure/project and will share some of my progress.
I am proud to be rejoining the ranks of the Airstream Drivers

Thanks Dean.
Its titled as a 1982, like your 280, but the dash is from 84/85. It also came with aluminum Rims, which is unusual for 82

Hey Peter, glad to see the jacket worked its charm on you and brought you back into the fold.
I'm sure we are all going to enjoy watching you bring another one back.

What is the bed/ bath layout in your new 310.
Have you sold the smaller Moho that you picked up a while back?

Cheers Richard

Thanks for the welcome back, Richard!
the 310 has the rear twins, center Bath. I just purchased a dinette set from a 85 290 that happened to have the same table formica as my kitchen formica..fat chance, huh ??
I will convert the 2 barrel chairs flip table to Mini dinette to have the best of both worlds:
Front gaucho/dinette rear Twins that have the option to make a huge King bed, if one would desire to do so

Congrats on the 310 purchase Peter. It seems like someone has done some mods on yours already as your nose has either a bra or has been painted.

Also interesting, a fixed window beside a slider at the front? I have never seen that before unless the window was replaced at some point.

Now I have a 310 but sadly no jacket. Does the jacket have a manufacturers tag by chance?

What is it about Classics and rear end cap damage...DO PEOPLE NOT LOOK UP? That's not going to buff out.

Cheers
Tony

The later dash looks like a nice upgrade! I see someone added the side panels as well. I like the side panels but they wouldn't fit mine with my "upgraded" wider seats.

Are you going to keep the "rose" carpet? I'm sort of disappointed I replaced mine! NOT!!!

I bet we are all dying to see more pics! At least I am! I wish so bad that I had a 310 with rear bedroom, but "it is what it is"!

Yes, Richard, I sold the 1983 Class C London Aire. My experience in the last 6 month restoring this rare Class C made me want an Airstream motorhome again.
I understand you already know and appreciate this, but Classic Airstream Motorhomes are top notch and superior to almost anything out there.
I sunk over 300 rivet and 11 tubes of vulkem in this London Aire to get it water tight. I pulled every window and found nothing but crap.
The end result is fine and rare Class C and the person that got it from me, truly appreciates all the work I did.
Here are a few pictures of the final product:
40 000 original miles, mechanically top notch with complete new exhaust system and dash AC.
Would I do it again? Probably not, but i am thankful that this experience got me back into my real passion: Classic Airstream Motorhomes

Tag on the Jacket says Nemesis Sportwear.
The nose is painted and needs to be redone. I think what you are seeing on the passenger window is the broken metal bar that holds the fixed front window in place.
Does your 83 have the same dash as mine? I think that I have an 1983 instead of 82 as the title says. GM portion being an 82 and the Airstream a 83

Congrats!!!

Hey Peter,
What a nice project now to do for you!!!! The 310 looks not that bad...! The floorplan is great, pleaaaaaase do not throw away the little swiwel chairs and the foldable table!!!!
I totally agree, even if the London Aire looks great, it is NO AIRSTREAM
As you know, i am busy since month to restore our "baby", i also found "tons of crap", once i torned out the interior.
It appears to me, in the mid 80ties, the Guys from Airstream had a competition:
"Who dies the worst job today?" Probably the team, who assembled our 345 WON this match...!
Loose screws, missing rivets, badly cutten wood, tons of terribly installed caulking, the liist is endless. Everything vovered with thick carpet, to "hide" the clumsy work.
I have re-builded every (!) piece of furniture, insulated the floor, the wheelhousings and the drivers cabin. Then installed a warm toned laminated wood floor and i will keep the original colour (rose!!!) for the carpet in bedroom and cabin. It took me a while to get this carpet, it is about 1" thick, named "antique rose". It was strange to see it in the shop, but now installed, everybody is exited about.
It looks soooo retro-chique!
A few little things are still to do, i enjoyed every minute i wirked in our "Bangles"!!!
Our next project is there also:
We purchased just an 1975 Ambassador 29, a "survivor", never restored, never "updated", close to "0" dings in the shell.
We will ship it soon to Germany
Will try to add some pictures!!!!!
Best Regard from Grefrath-Germany
