The Classic Is Featured In Motor Home Magazine

I just received my latest copy of Motor Home magazine and the Classic is the featured motor home in their regular historical feature for this month. Last month they featured the Argosy so it is only fitting they would have the Airstream this month. What really struck me was the list price of the beauties we drive. They stated that a 28' model was over $54,000 and the diesel was a $14,000 option! The 310 brought the price over $80,000. No price was mentioned for the 345 but I can imagine it was well over $100,000. This is in twenty-five year old dollars. These prices come close to comparing with what some of the new class A costs today.

I found the original invoice for my 345 in some papers after I bought it. It was listed at $112,000 in 1986. That's something like $190,000 in today's dollars. Wow - I can't afford my own motorhome!

Imagine the house you could have bought in the 1980s for those prices...
And what it would be worth today!

Motorhome was going to publish my article on the History of the Classic, but it did not happen, guess they put together their own.

Talking

I also have the invoice to the original owners of my 310.
$76,000.00 in 1983. How cool is that...
What I paid for the 310 plus all the upgrades, repairs, replacements, and I still have less (not much) than $20k invested. I think that is awesome.

The original invoice for the Zeppelin (1991 350LE) was made out for $102K. This might indicate a dip in prices in the early 1990's when interest rates were very high.

Best,

Rob

Wow! Those are really high prices. Bought my first house on 5 acres for $33,000 in 1984. I think our interest rate was 12.65% on a 15 year mortgage.

Funny, those prices are about what you would pay now for a Class B or C. I think some class A motorhomes are in the low $100K's.
