Stripe removal?

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to remove the long side stripes that we have on our classics? The Jasco brand stripper that I've tried barely seems to touch the stripes and their adhesive backing. Not sure if this is another case of the environmentalists taking all the punch out of a product. I seem to recall that the stuff was a lot nastier to work with several years ago. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Charly, Is yours paint or decal ? If it's decal are you using what looks like a round eraser wheel on a power tool ? Look up a PT280-THUG, this is what I sell the guys in the body shops. Regards, Bob

Google it with airforums in the title. I think there are other posts on this topic. Steve (keyair) might have posted one.

heating should work, which would loosen the adhesive but the stripe might disintegrate into small flakes and mush up with adhesive.
Use heat liberally and suing plastic putty knife it should work.

If you heat it, avoid a torch, you can warp the skin. Use a good heat gun

I did this twice. Both times I had to sand it and then stripe over it. You don't see the stripe underneath if its smooth. On one I had the stripe was painted on and it was awful.

Try one of these: 3M Stripe Off Wheel 07498, 3/8" Mandrel, 4" Diameter x 5/8" Width, Beige. They are sold on Amazon. I used them all the time to remove stickers, number decals, strips, etc. from my race cars. Works great. Do not heat before you use it or it will just smear.

I've got a 93 Classic. Removing the decal sounds like work, The stripes are OK except for some crazing. Anybody know a paint that will match the stripe color? There is/was also a thin stripe in the middle. Can anyone tell me what color it was?

I would love to hear more about what others did after removal. Photos even better.

Use steam, plenty of heat to loosen the decal and then pull while hitting it with more steam. If you keep the temperature up the adhesive will come off with it too.

ID:	283168 This is what I used. It removed decal and the vinyl replacement stripe. Took about three applications. Just give it time to work and tape off anything you want to not have clear coat removed.

More toxic than most other stripers. Use outside. Wear gloves, long sleeves and eye protection. Did not know it works on decals, but one of the few stripers that is effective on clear coat.

Citri strip and a plastic scraper will work. It takes 3 applications on a small area atatime under ideal conditions. If it is too hot it just bakes on and does not cut.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I think I'll give the Aircraft stripper the first shot. It sounds like the most aggressive option. I will report back with the results.

Just wanted to follow up with my stripe removal results....

Thanks Kreimer! This is the stuff to use for sure!!!! Just tried it out and it kicks butt. I had a good feeling about it as soon as I opened the can. The noxious fumes are the giveaway. I wonder how long it will take for the Green Police to pull it off the market, as has happened with so many other really effective products.

Definitely want to cover anything that you don't want to have eaten up! Forget all the rest, this is the magic bullet.

Aircraft Paint Remover rules!

Glad it works! If you shake the can really well the fumes seemed to be not as terrible to me.

I have a 1993 LY legacy Motorhome. I have a quote for $2300 to recover the entire
Stripe with white the apply a second stripe with colour of choice. No removal of original stripe. They assure me the second layer will cover the original blemishes . They are a reputable shop and came up with several recommendations. What do people think, am I wasting my money?

I'm re-doing the 1/2" 'chrome' belt molding, with marine vinyl 3M tape . (Above the Classic Oval) All the shiny left years ago, but the surface is still smooth & intact.
Getting Premium Blue reflective, 1/2" wide, 150' roll $61.25. Ordered it today.

Have used it on boat with very good results, tough stuff.

Buy a roll and practice...it's a definite DIY job. Thats a lot of $$ for a fairly easy job. 👍
