jm2: I sent you a private email with the friend's information so you can contact him directly about what he did and used. Remember, his is an Olds 455, not a Chev 454. They are quite different engines.

Cummins 6BTA

Here is a picture of the cummins 6BTA in our 1991 350. Needs some cleaning and paint to make it pretty. So you can consider this the "before". May be years till I get an "after" For some reason the DW thinks we need to work on the making the inside nice before the engine compartment?? What?

Visually the engine compartment looks to be the same size.

Brad,

It is approximately: 33" fore to aft, 29.5" side to side.

OK, I'll bite - what did you buy, and what are your second thoughts about?

thanks!

Very nice! I read your thread about the banks installation. Quite impressive. I wish I could through a mattress over mine to deaden the turbo. Looks like I have to go out and spend the $$ for the low density foam to redue the doag house rather than just get a good mattress.

Dakota,

As much as I tend to prefer the retro look of the earlier Classics, THAT is the power set up that makes me drool. Maybe someday. What kind of 1/4 mile times are you seeing at the track?

Sorry I only gave half an answer. I got a Spectre 728 intake, see: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sp...FSTZQgodRmkA6w

Assuming that I can actually pull off installing it, I am having second thoughts about disconnecting and trashing what seems to be a functional smog system. After driving the 310 from coast to coast and getting something worked on at pretty much every stop along the way, it is running better than ever. I am keeping the intake under the couch for now, maybe when something breaks it will get a chance.

I should buy stock in Rustoleum, I seem to always be using lots of it!

Before the motor goes back in the engine compartment will be a nice shiny black. Have to wait until I get a warmer day so I can steam clean it. After that the paint goes on.

Brad,

Have you considered painting with POR-15? It's a bit pricey, but the finish you end up with is amazingly hard and very glossy, and it loves to be applied over a rusty surface. (Not to imply that you might even have any rust ). As I understand it, Rustoleum is nothing but plain old spray paint with a great marketing campaign.

Charly, actually I usually use a product called Miracle Paint in applications like this. It's basically the same as POR-15 only it has some UV inhibitors. I've been using it since 1996 and have been very pleased with the results. At times I will top coat it with Rustoleum but not always.

As far as rust on the Argosy, I did spot some the other day that I probably should take care of

Thanks!

Brad
