Roof insulation

We had a light dusting of snow yesterday afternoon and I took this picture today.



There is no heat in the coach and nobody has been in the coach for several days. It is interesting what little heat, I assume it is from the sun prior to the snow, goes right through the ribs and melts the snow. At least it gives a good map of where to step if you have to walk on the roof.

Dan, you probably already know this but just in case I would caution about stepping on the rivets that run front to back. Those are not structural ribs they are just seams in the skin where one layer overlaps the other.

Are you parked for the winter?

Actually I am not the smallest guy around so I don't walk around on the roof. I put down a couple of carpet covered 2"x6" planks or a chunk of plywood on a carpet scrap to sit on or kneel on if I have to work on the roof. This is me removing the original vent to install the new MaxxFan.



Also the picture with the snow on the roof isn't my moho, it belongs to Tin Crumpet. They bought it a few months ago and are storing it here for their American vacations. It just happened to be an interesting picture looking out my bedroom window.

As to being parked for the winter Brad, no we really don't. This is the first time this winter we have been down to or below freezing. Recently I rebuilt my wood shed and put down a concrete floor and have been putting up fire wood. We heat with wood so it puts a few hours on the chain saw every year. Whenever an excuse presents itself we just lock the door and go camping. I am currently keeping my eyes open for an excuse that might happen along.

You sir, have provided photographic evidence of either your insulation's ability to hold in at least some heat (flywheel effect), and the ribs ability to lose some of that heat (conduction). Or, the greenhouse effect warming your interior and the ribs ability to transfer that heat out. Thermal mass, Thermodynamics, Conductive heat loss, Greenhouse effect, and even phase change (melting snow)are all processes occurring in one photo, nice ! All the more reason we need to to come up with some kind of thermal break system for AS heatsinks, I mean ribs Or its just melting snow I guess!

In the attached picture you can see what the north/south rivet lines are riveted to on the inside. There are Z shaped spacers between the ribs that run north/south and I believe they are added as stiffeners.

I have been on the roof of my trailer but it always made me uneasy. i like buckwheats carpeted 2x6's and plywood. need to remember to pick that stuff up from storage this coming weekend.

Actually I think it was Dan (Smartstream) with the carpeted 2x6s and plywood. When I swapped the air conditioners from the 345 to the 310 I parked them side by side and then laid two 2x10s between them and then a piece of plywood on top of that.

Since I knew I was scrapping the 345 I just slide the old 310 air conditioners across on the 2x10s and threw them over the side of the 345. I then slide the 345 air conditioners carefully over to the 310 and set them in place.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the process

Unfortunately my work phone is android and the fat fingers and small screens seem to be universal! You won't get any flames from me.... If they only made an Ipad sized smart phone!

They do, it's called a Galaxy Note 2

I plan on getting a Note 2 in May when my contract with AT&T expires. I plan on switching to Verizon at that time and changing my phone # as well. I'm looking forward to trying to type with the Note 2 stylus, hopefully that will solve my problem of fat fingers and small keys.

You guys really make me feel old and out of it. The only thing my phone does is make phone calls.
