Question on Windshield

So,

Idiot decided a few months ago to make some 'modifications' to front bumper of my Motorhome. Insurance finally came through last month, and I got parts ordered. Since estimate included labor, I took extra $$ and purchased a windshield gasket since AirstreamSupply.com had them available.

Just got off phone with Airstream Supply, they asked what 'size' gasket I had. Meaning, what is measurement from centerline of windshield gasket to side of glass. Told me that two different size gaskets available. 48" or 51".

Wondering if anyone has ever noticed this size difference? Do Argosy and Airstream have the difference, or does difference occur from earlier (1974) to later (1980's)?

Oh, Airstream Supply said that Airstream no longer supplies the gasket to dealers, but he was able to contact the manufacturer to obtain gasket.

Thanks, Derek

Is that measuring vertically at the center as well? Mine is about 48 at center and 53+\- at bottom. I can't reach the top right now.

Just as I thought

Hi Dean,

Had a feeling the difference was between earlier models and later models. Weird, never recall seeing anyone posting about this before.

Will get a photo tomorrow and post, to see the differences between your 82 and my 89. Mine is 51", believe there is more 'side' glass on mine, but will compare photos here tomorrow. Maybe if we twist KeyAir's arm tomorrow, he'll get to storage and see if his '84 is 48 or 51.

Thanks, Derek

If it will help I will measure my 89 325LE when I get home from Cooperstown, N.Y. on Monday, In the meantime why don't you call them back and ask where the measurement is taken from......top or bottom.....vertically or horizontally ???

Who knew? 3 different measurements from top of windshield , middle and lower section. Dean, it's does seem that there is a difference between your windshield and mine.

Measurements are not necessary.

Most parts dealers know what is needed.

I'm wondering if the difference is between the Argosy/Classic series and the later series
Here's a 1997 version:

And I'm pretty sure the gasket isn't for this one

I've always been led to believe that the Argosy and Classic series had the same exact front end. I know the 86 345 that I dismantled had the same structural framework as my 74 Argosy has.

Be interesting to see what model the other gasket fits.

Surely the measurement would be between two easily defined points. Somewhere-across-the-middle-of-the-windshield would not seem to be satisfactory.

Gee...I'm glad to see that Andy's reading the forum ! I was beginning to wonder if he was still with us ! " nice to hear from you Andy" and for that regard...forget about your measurements and just call Andy...he'll have what you need and if he doesn't he'll be able to tell you who does. His place is where I always go first, it's worth it, trust me. Regards, Bob.

I will absolutely and completely guarantee that no parts dealer in Canada will know what is needed, and therefore knowing how this 48" or 51" measurement is taken would be helpful, at least up here where our mail still comes in by canoe and packmule, and the only broadband is a ladies' orchestra.
